Nuytsia floribunda, commonly known as Western Australian Christmas tree, is a parasitic tree found in Western Australia. It is known for its bright yellow flowers around Christmas time (summer). It can grow to 10m tall. It is a member of the Loranthaceae or mistletoe family.

Despite our good wishes I think Val may be having a terrible holiday. If the weather in Bolton is anything like here she is busy holding onto her roof.

RayRay and others, it seems this is the second time I have mistaken Australian wattle for our goldenrod. Here is a link with a ophoto of our goldenrod and short article from the state agricultural colege.

Earlier in the year, Linda from MN had a little church mouse problem and we had a lot of fun with it. Linda worked in a church office and left to work somewhere and we have not heard from her. Anyone have an update???

G'day all, Rolanda I think you are right. The Christmas trees are starting to bloom now, they are quite spectacular this year. What about the Jacarandas, haven't they been magnificent this year?

Jane - Did you win your tennis match? Great new neologisms you came up with!

Dave: based upon the performance of my Bruins lately. I have to agree with my Cal alumni cousin - we don't have a very good chance (maybe 20-1). But, we won last year - SO, anything can happen. USC (University of Spoiled Children). GO BRUINS!

Any tennis fans (Jane, Keith, Mel, others?) out there watching the Davis Cup matches like Rob & I are? Roddick won the first singles match & Blake is up a set in the second match. They are playing out in Portland, Oregon. Go USA! Beat Russia!

Florida Kathy:
I thought Jane's words were marvellous, but I feel a little burned out and jaded right now and can't keep up.
Also the weather here is most unsettling - 70mph gales. I couldn't sleep because of gable-howls - very spooky.

you're right, rayray. (and it is possible to be both right and pedantic, too... or is it pedantic to point that out?)

How about a neologistic game, though... make up a new word for a phenomenon, quality, etc., to be named...

Here is the first one, to get things going.

The act of typing with one's fingers on the wrong keys.

went to the gelato shop this morning - had 6 tastes/tspoons and went for 1kg of mango and raspberry, went to the healthfood shop, ate a mince pie straight from the display stand, went to the fishmongers and tasted their pepper squid, went to the supemarket and ate my way around all the food tasting stands - I'm quite full now, although I could go a choccie....

er, billy, did the proprietors mind you eating right from the display stand? Did you at least use a fork? And was it one of those glass cases so that all the other customers could watch you feasting away?
