Mariane, I was not kidding about the date. All me factoids are accurate to the best of my knowledge.

In the small town of Halifax, Yorkshire, where I was born, there was a guillotine known as the Gibbet where petty criminals were beheaded until the mid 17th century. They were beheaded for stealing something to the value of thirteen and a half pence. My first thought on reading Kayo's factoid was similar to Mariane's, fancy cleaning up afterwards, yuck!
