Judy: I love caramel, too. I'm more likely to order creme caramel for dessert than chocolate torte. Dulce de Leche is my favorite ice cream. Even my favorite wines are the ones that are described in the tasting notes as toasty or with caramel overtones. Suzanne's turtle bars sound great!

I presume you identify with Sally Forth in the comics!

Sorry if I put a downer on the chocolate thoughts... I'm with you all there! (don't like Hershey's, though, sorry USAs!)
 |  |
Dave: On the wine topic from a previous day... We had a great Pinot Noir from Oregon at dinner last night. It was the Mt. Jefferson Cuvee from Cristom Vineyards. Have you been tasting at this vineyard?
 |  |
I had a cream, a cream where all chocolate was equal.
 |  |
Bill from texas just visited your home page and had a share in your chocolate breakfast. It made me laugh out loud. Thank you

I could easily kill for caramel, with no remorse. Turtles with sticky caramel, fresh pecans, and luscious chocolate are yummy, and I also like Cadbury's Caramello. Drool is drowning my keyboard.

Yeah, MARTHA, Sally eats the ears, too! It's genetic ... my mom ate the ears off OUR rabbits, too! Unlike my kids, I have long since forgiven her!

Hi Everyone,

To help you find people's personal pages, I have set up a list of all the members & links to their pages.

There is also a link to this page on the 'MORE' page.

Nurn: Unfortunately, it's also more than opportunity. There are cultural aspects to poverty that make it even harder to rise out of. I have a friend who is working with the poor in a small town, providing support (whatever is needed from year to year be it food or tutoring or counseling or More...

Judy! Turtles...I love turtles. They don't do them in this part of the world... Husband is going to Chicago later this week (I refused to accompany him, as it's Chicago in January; been there...), but you've just reminded me what to ask him to bring back for me...
 |  |
Very suave.
 |  |
Hey, NURN! Many companies make good turtles, but those from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory are a little firmer and travel better than most. I just checked for you, and there are several of the stores in Chicago! Let us know if you get your wish!

Martha, I understand that it is cultural, really I do; I've seen that, and very close to home. I think that maybe some of that is inverse-snobbery but also the feeling that people feel that their kids need to help more immediately with the family situation. I think that those kind of situations More...

I am not going to discuss my addiction to dark hocolate especially rum and raisin because I know just discussing it and thinking of it will add weight on!!
I just wont talk about beautiful rum and raisin hocolate mmmmmmmm or any hocolate at all really. and Lindt hocolate ..... I am addicted.
sorry not going to mention it!!

I tried to post earlier but kept getting an error. I can't remember what all I had to say earlier, but I like some chocolates, as I've gotten older and have different teeth, I have gotten away from caramels.
 |  |
nurn, another chocolate snob! i'm with you and i'm a us citizen. hershey could really learn a lot from the europeans. i won't touch it, i'm overweight enough, if i eat anything it better be worth the exercise with which i will torture myself.
martha thanks for the recipe. i'm going to try it soon!
 |  |
During the winter I also like to add Godiva Chocolate Liqueur to my hot chocolate, others add it to coffee, I don't drink coffee.
 |  |
But, BILL, you just need the caramels that are almost runny and melt in your mouth. Or stick with Dulce de Leche!
 |  |
Thanks, Judy, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, I'll take your word for it! Mind you, any turtles will do for me.
 |  |
Sharon, I'm a us citizen as well, but also a european so I can feel smug.... also overweight, so can't really feel smug...

Sorray Wagdy Kamel, don't count this as two comments, just hit the button twice, I guess!

Hi Everyone,

And now the bugs are fixed - thanks to Anne for pointing this out.

Thanks for recipe, Martha.

night all!

Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, please don't make me go there again. I always spent too much money and brought back too much chocolate that I couldn't let go to waste. There's one in Hillsboro on the way to and from where my daughter went to college, uni, we always stopped on the way.

Martha, I have not. It is up in Northern Oregon and we are in the south. I had to give up alcohol 11 years ago for health reasons. We live in the Applegate Valley which is becoming quite the wine country of it's own. Valley View wines are the most widely known but some of the smaller vineyards More...

Martha, there's a Scharffenberger booth in a fine food store on the square in Healdsburg. I picked up a Sampler there. The extra Dark was just too bitter. The milk choc. was fine, but I like Hersheys and Girradelli better. The middle dark was pretty good. My hands down all time favorite chocolate is Rogers in Victoria British Colombia. None better in my book.
 |  |
Keith: I agree that the extra dark is too bitter, but hubby likes it. Then again he likes sugarless espresso, too. I don't like Hersheys and Ghirardelli, though - too waxy and the flavor is all wrong for me. It's like getting used to Coke and then trying to switch to Pepsi or Tab (remember More...

White Chocolate, invented here in 1955.

I LOVE the internet, i just did a search on Scharffenberger and they carry it at Central Market, I'll be there tomorrow on my way home from work.
 |  |

Thanks Gath, the list makes life so much easier.
 |  |
Bill: Buy some Valrhona, too, and see which you like best. Be careful with the 82% Scharffenberger. It definitely takes a certain kind of chocoholic. Let me know what you think about the 62% vs the 70%. I prefer the 62% for eating and the 70% for cooking. I've been to Central Market in Austin when I was visiting my friend who lives in Wimberley. It's a very nice store.

Quite a bit of traffic today. We just got word that school tomorrow has been 'iced out', so I didn't grade papers as long as I had intended. I was actually able to read the comments for the first time in almost two weeks, I think.

Hello all. Awesome day in DC/Maryland. Time doesn't permit me to visit individually to thank you for sharing and remembering King's legacy with me. 'will catch up a little later. It's been a beautiful/busy day of celebration here in Washington. 'got a new book deal today. Business is good. Life is good. Thanks for the sacrifice, Martin. We paused for you, a King, today. Yeaaaah!

Judy from SD - if you like Caramello then you would love Caramello Koalas - Cadbury chocolate filled with Caramel in the shape of a koala. When the nieghbourhood kids do fund raisers we often buy large Koalas - nealy double the size for $1. Much better than the Freddo frogs imho.
 |  |

Jamie - good to see you back! How is your MIL doing?

Gath - thanks for the list of Personal Pages. It sure will come in handy!
 |  |

BERT - congrats on the book deal! Glad you had a good day - what a man to remember.
 |  |

Amelia from Robinvale - you asked the other day if my dad worked at Williamtown. No - back in the late 50s he worked at Rathmines near Toronto on Lake Macquarie? My BIL is in the airforce and was posted to Williamtown at the beginning of 2005. My sister also works on the base as well. They live at Salamander Bay and we will be spending a week with them in March.
 |  |

KATHY - thanks for asking - bad news. We had x-rays done today expecting to be told that the neck brace could come off (after 10 1/2 weeks). When Jeanie heard from the doctor late this afternoon, he said he wants it on another 4 weeks. She is understandably feeling really bad right now. So we have to regroup and go on.
