everyone. Most of you know Rob & I love to travel & like to plan one big overseas trip every year. Since I picked Antarctica last year Rob got to pick the destination for this year. He picked Russia!! He told me he has always wanted to see the place the missiles on his More... 23/May/12 12:32 AM |  |
Unfortunately, Russia requires tourists from the U.S. to obtain Visas to enter their country. Yesterday we completed & mailed in our applications. What an ordeal! They required pages & pages of information including such details as our mother's maiden names, post-secondary More... 23/May/12 12:42 AM |  |
If they don't want you, the Aussies would be more than happy with the delights of your company 23/May/12 12:46 AM |  |
Thanks, Tricia. I sure felt a lot more welcome in Australia! I'm just sorry my timing was off -I wish I had met all you lovely Aussie sudokuists BEFORE we made that trip (2005) instead of afterward. 23/May/12 12:50 AM |  |
I have a basic rule Kathy. If I have to get a visa they can keep their country. You should come back now you know so many Aussies and Kiwi's. Much nicer when you can visit people and see what the locals see. 23/May/12 1:00 AM |  |
Kathy - Russia was the only place that took our passports away while we were on-shore when visiting via a cruise. 23/May/12 1:05 AM |  |
Maybe taking our passport was because they didn't require a visa if visiting while on a cruise-sponsored side trip. 23/May/12 1:07 AM |  |
(And... They keep you 'corralled' rather closely in cruise groups there.) 23/May/12 1:10 AM |  |
Still, visiting the St. Petersburg area was worth it! Hated that they herded us through the Hermitage. Would have liked a more leisurely visit there. St. Catherine's Palace was phenomenal! Be prepared for uniformed musical bands. 23/May/12 1:15 AM |  |
 Beautiful picture , Kate. Lovely sunrise. 23/May/12 1:38 AM |  |

 Hello, Keith! 23/May/12 2:08 AM |  |
Mr. Cee - of the 35 countries we have visited, only 4 have required Visas: Cambodia, Vietnam, Brazil, & Russia. Info from the Brazilian Embassy stated that the reason they require them of U.S. citizens is because the U.S. requires them of Brazilian citizens! We applied in person for More... 23/May/12 2:39 AM |  |
Shiela - what year did you go to Russia? I am really looking forward to visiting the Hermitage! I imagine our group tour will be fast like yours, so we are thinking of going back again the day after when we have free time. 23/May/12 2:42 AM |  |
Where is Sarah Beth? I miss her. Maybe she is all worn out from making pizzas? 23/May/12 2:57 AM |  |
Sounds like a great opportunity, Kathy. I have a niece that has been there with her husband and boys for 3 (4?) years. He works for the State Department, I think, doing maintenance/construction work at the embassy. They are getting ready to move to China sometime in the next year. 23/May/12 3:21 AM |  |
Good afternoon to all! A super photo Kate. 23/May/12 4:25 AM |  |
Kathy (Fla), only 35 countries. You had better get busy as there at least 160 more to go (give or take the way things keep changing). 23/May/12 4:28 AM |  |
As to the visa requirements, for many lesser developed countries it is usually associated with a charge, and it is just another way of making revenue. Then there is politics, as Kathy mentioned, and it's tick for tac. Your country wants one so so do we. For most modernized countries, it is just a pre-screening exercise as I am sure every one realizes. 23/May/12 4:33 AM |  |
Ouima's birthday tomorrow. I hope she is well enough to celebrate it a little. Does anyone have an update on her condition and status? 23/May/12 4:35 AM |  |

Back in So. Oregon - had a nice Mother's Day with my mom and visit last week. I still am having problem with getting use to a touch pad.
