everyone!
It does kind of look like a shield. I wonder if that's how it got the name?

But, yes, I agree about the salmon steak, Plum.

I started running in the fog but half way through my run the fog rose and now it's merely cloudy. Hmmm, Southern California with a cloudy day???

Hello, all!

I need to find out more about that Shield Bug - later!

Hmmm, a Shield Bug - a more desirable name chosen for the unpopular bug here in the states called a Stink Bug.

Since it was determined our Stink Bug deserved a better name, they have one: This is the much more widely used name in the UK - a Shield Bug!

Well, Greg - this is what I found:

The Green Shield Bug is the most common shield bug in gardens.

Any Stink Bug I've ever seen was brown. This one is a least colorful.

Could it be the males are this colour to attract the brown female stink bug.

We have been getting stink bugs in our house all winter! Yuk! Ours are brownish gray. Hubby found out why they were called stink bugs when he pinched one between his fingers. Stink wouldn't come off his fingers right away after washing.

Definitely looks like salmon - I was not surprised that so many others thought so, too. Stink bugs are not so flat, either. There are more differences than color, I have to think, without having bothered to search yet.

What we call stink bugs here are up to 1.5 inches long and glossy black, so they must be misnamed. They do raise their rears and stink, though! They also crunch loudly when you are riding your bike on a trail and accidentally run over them!

Good one, old girl!

I haven't been on my bike for a couple of weeks as I seemed to have hurt my wrist from the pressure on the handlebars.

Our stink bugs are shaped like highway symbol shields. They are dull greige in color and this year there has been an abundance of them overwintering in the house.

I first encountered stink bugs when I visited my daughter in NC several years ago in the fall - there was a particular protocol I needed to follow for safe capture and disposal ...flushing down the toilet after gently wrapping in a tissue was the preferred one!

We never had... or I should say I never saw or encountered... stink bugs here in the NE until 4-5 years ago - they must be migrating!
