Are we slow today? The Tin Man got paged out for a grass fire at 4:20. How the he!! does a grass fire get started in the middle of the night? (I suspect a tossed bu##.) He fell asleep in the chair doing the report when he came home (the fire was already out when he got there), so I got to sleep More...

Amazing birds in Oz. There are so many predators in the US that you can't get near wild birds.

Enjoying a blustery 16 C day here after four or five days of mid-30s and humidex factors in the mid-40 range. A welcome change brought on no doubt from Earl's visit to our east coast.

A rainy evening a new customer arrives into a pub, and orders a coffee.
"That will be three dollars, Sir," said the bartender.
The customer quietly drinks the coffee, then he takes three one-dollar bills from his wallet and places one on the center of the counter. He then goes to More...

everyone. Aileen - were you a Girl Scout by any chance? I remember singing that song about the kookaburra many times when I was a Brownie & G.S. Now I just read in our local newspaper that some people in Australia are trying to change the words because the line "gay your life must be" is now controversial. Aussies, have you heard anything about that?

I suspect that Dad has been feeding the kook for some time, making a friendship of sorts. The one family I stayed with in Castle Crag (N Sydney) the woman got calves hearts from the butcher and feed them in her yard.

Hope everyone is enjoying a "loverly" day! It is beautiful and sunny here with temps only in the 80's F. and a light breeze. Just perfect!

Good Morning. That photo reminds me that I forgot to get some meat out to thaw to feed the kookaburras when they come into the back yard in the morning.
Kathy, it was a school teacher who was changing the word and it made the news and talk back radio. Stupid man!

I bought a new pair of skiis at the SNIAGRAB (bargains spelled backward). Volkl Grizzly's were last year's model and sold for $1525. Got the skiis (and bindings) for $389. The 2010 Gear Guide rated them pretty good: "beat all comers in hard-snow performance". Not a bad deal!

Ian - Rosemary did say on Facebook yesterday that they were preparing to evacuate but not to worry, they were OK and still hoping that the levee banks would hold. I'll check again this morning and if there's anything new I'll let you know.
