I was up early this morning because we have a plumber coming. Just in case he has to turn off the water, I wanted to take a shower. Hubby is pretty good about fixing things around here, but, as he says, ''I don't mess with plumbing''.

I hate winter so much that every year I have undertaken the challenge of finding things to deliberately celebrate and appreciate about winter just to avoid being constantly unhappy. I have taught myself to enjoy how far I can see through wooded landscapes when the leaves are off the trees, how the More...

I agree, Plum, that you have to find the good in winter and summer! Summer wasn't so bad here years ago. We'd have a mild summer until towards the end of the season when we'd get the Santa Anas winds or Indian Summer on steroids! Everyone would have bleeding chapped lips, dry itchy skin, and some mild breathing problems due to the very dry winds.

The above musing to remind myself to stay positive in the face of the first accumulating ''s-s-snow'' of the year.

Now the very hot, muggy weather can start early on and the last few years I've even considered getting a small air condition unit. Now winter here I like because you can dress up for the weather but what do you do for summer, besides going illegally bare!

Thanks, shosho. I know other climes aren't total paradise (except Hawaii but I won't taunt myself by dwelling on what I can't afford). I am already slathering myself in lotion and drinking extra fluids to combat the low humidity.

I'm in a quandary. I have this stock pot I've used for More...

Summer is great here if you don't mind the humidity. We usually have no more than 2-3 weeks of ''illegally bare'' summer weather days (and usually not all in one stretch). And we have lots of lakes and streams for cooling off when it gets hot. This winter those same lakes are going to be dotted with lots of ice fishing shacks. Weathermen tell us that an early deep persistent cold is moving in.

all.
I have this strong desire to talk like a pirate.
Wonder if the patch over my left eye has anything to do with that.
Had cataract surgery this morning and have the patch to protect the eye. (The wink should be with the left eye.)

Plum, your description of how to maintain a good attitude toward winter is spot on. I've never seen or heard my feeling expressed more eloquently.

Well, I'm 98% clear of nurses and hospitals. I have only one wound left, and it is closed but not fully healed yet. All should be good by Christmas. Now practicing driving my car again, as it has been almost a tear since last time.

So well put, Plum.
I must say, I will take the cold over heat and humidity.

People I know who have had cataract surgery were thrilled with the results, Hal. Take it easy and heal well.

What good news, Greg! I'm sure you and your car will become very good friends again in no time. Enjoy the freedom!

Thanks Kathy. Hal, I hadn't read the previous posts so missed the cataract surgery news. I hope all went well. I'd hate to have eye problems at this stage of my life. Take care my friend!

Well, the surgery was not 'a piece of cake,' but it was quick and pain free. Barbara had hers done 3 years ago, so I pretty much knew what to expect.

Thanks for your concern.

Hello to all - like your positive reflection on winter, Plum... might as well find the joy in what each day brings; as in some other cases, the alternative is especially depressing!!

Time is the healer as Greg is demonstrating - great news! ...well, along with following one's doctor's directions, too!

Hal, I hope that surgery changes your view of the world - for the better.

Now Hal is in the 'survive-the-healing-time' situation ...when your newly restored eyesight will be the reward! Barbara will surely keep you following those post-op directions - heal fast!

Morning all, great photo Colleen.
Hal, I'm sure you'll have no trouble winking with the left eye ! 😜
Greg, won't be long now till you are fully healed. 👍

Good luck Hal. I had both mine done a couple of years ago and now I've got 20/20 which I never had before. Hope yours is as painless and smooth going as mine was.
