Hi everyone. It's not often I'm still awake at midnight - I'm just finishing off reinstalling everything after taking the plunge and updating my laptop from Windows 7 to 8.1. So far everything is working just fine.

Greg, let us know how it goes. I opted for Win7 on my new laptop after hearing how folks have 'back-graded' from 8 to 7. I'm not ready for my laptop to look and act like a smart phone, which I don't have anyway.

The rebus happens to be one of my favorite word games, and that will be the focus most of my weekend puzzles, with a few welcome breaks for other fun. You'll start noticing certain conventions, though to keep things interesting, those conventions can often be interpreted two or three different More...

Yay! The formatting worked! A little history on the Rebus: A rebus is an allusional device that uses pictures to represent words, parts of words, or a syllabic sound. The process predates the development of the alphabet and represents one of the most important developments of writing. Hieroglyphs More...

After the advice I got from several ''computer savvy'' friends, I, too, opted for Windows 7 on my new computer. I don't need all the bells and whistles, either. I've been happy with the decision, so far.

G'day mates.
Here's today's daffynition:

Here's today's factoid:
In 1979, 10 year old Orlando L. Serrell suffered a brain injury and got no medical treatments. Since then he has been able to recall the weather, do calendar calculations, and remember where he was and what he has done every day since.

This is interesting.....

Serrell, from the US, was an ordinary child before he received a blow to the head on a Virginia baseball field in 1979. But one year later, when the headaches had cleared, it dawned on Serrell that he had been left with an uncanny side effect, one that has stayed More...

A Martian couple and an Earthling couple have met and are talking about all sorts of things. Finally, the subject of sex comes up.

'Just how do you guys do it?' asked the Earthling.

'Pretty much the way you do,' responded the Martian.

Discussion ensues More...

I have Windows 8.1 and would probably recommend staying with Windows 7.
You do get used to it, but I don't use it to its full capacity, by any means.

2) pack + age = package
3) fin + ale = finale
4) liter + ally = literally

In the today we have Judy, Kathy (3/4), and Joyce (2/4). I have surprise packages for today's winners.

I'm liking 8.1 so far and having been using it on my tablet and phone for some time so know the operating system reasonably well already. One of my tech buds (consulting) doesn't care for Win8, but is beta testing the next big upgrade. Apparently it's based on the framework of 8, and he says 'it's sweeeeeeet'. That's saying a lot since he's not a fan of Windows (I think he's Linux).
