12:13 to you all.

Lovely Catalina. I lived in LA for five years, and I never went out to the island. But I sure saw it a lot from my hikes in the coast hills.

Basic technique, then almost locked sets
j7(46) and (a6|b6|c6|h6) (35789) and j6(468) have 4 as a restricted common ==>j4=-6. That cracks the puzzle.

jiminoregon, usually the cells are lettered and numbered a thru i left to right. and the numbers 1 thru 9 bottom to top. Of course you can use anything you want but that is the nomenclature used here for years (gb, andrei, steve). Good solution though.

bluey, Catalina is an island off of Southern California... Pacific Ocean. Opposite side of the world from Wagdy's stomping grounds. Why would you think he took it? We have quite a few talented members in CA. who could have taken it.

Can someone let me know if this is how I should use Jim's solution in a chain?

(3679)abch4=(8)ac4-(8)i4=(46)i34 => i6<>6

Excellent solution by the way Jim!

Another path:

1)Start at 22, basic techniques to UP=30

2)Depth 6 fc:(4)i4=(4-6)f4=(6-2)d6=(2-1)b6=(1-9)b3=(9)h3-(9=4)g2
==>i3<>4, UP=81

To jiminoregon,

Sorry Jim, I cannot follow your logic - possibly due to the notation of squares. If you have the time and the inclination, could you please advise. Many thanks, and Best regards, Neil

Was up to almost 15 minutes when my stoopid cat walked over the keyboard! After that, it seemed I could only type in letters.
Heidi, Wagdy has a son who lives in the States, as a matter of fact, he is there at the moment. He has posted a lot of photos from his travels in America.

Gail, I did wink after that statement. I was just surprised that she immediately thought that Wagdy took it instead of one of the billions of people living in the States. We DO have cameras here. For all I know, Wagdy could have taken it. I know his son, and cute grandson Kevin, live in CA.

Neil, using a1 bottom left, i1 bottom right etc.
If I4 is 4 i3 is 6 so i 6 not 6. If f4 is 4 (only 4's in row 4 are f4 and i4). then def5 is 237 and d6 is 6 therefore i6 not 6. This is what the other notation means.

Another path:

1)Start at 22, basic techniques to UP=30

2)Depth 3 fc:(6=4)i3-(4)i4=(4-6)f4=(6)d6
==>i6<>6, UP=81
