Looks like a reenactment of the La Perouse arrival at Botany Bay on the day Captain Phillip entered Sydney Harbour for the first time. The French ship was sent down from Vladivostok to see what the British were up to. The instruction was sent from Paris a year earlier based on their intelligencea.

Yep it is a Dutch flag. Sorry Cenoman. The island seems well vegetated for Dirk Hartog Island. The Dutch mapped 3/4 of Australia so it could be many places if it is Australia. I suspect Anne knows more about this WA commemoration however, then she has shared so far.

The Tiwi Islands are about 90 km north of Darwin, and are part of the Northern Territory. I think there were many early visitors up there that we haven't heard much about until recent times.
