My solution for June25 Tough

23 cells given
UP to 25
basic methods give many eliminations but no solutions

6i2==5h2--5h7==4g7--4g6==4i6--4i4==6i4--6i2 forbids 5h1, 4g9

6g9, 6e1, 5i1 UP 28 cells done

1h6==1d6--1d2==1e2--1e5==1c5--2c5==2f5--5f5==5a5--5a7==5h7 More...

1)Start at 23,=>UP=25

2)fc:(1)d7=(1)ghi7-(1=8)g9-(8)g8=(8)de8
==>de8<>1

3)Coloring(1):ghi7=d 7-d5=e6,=>gi6<>1. UP=31

4)fc:(2=6)d1-(6)h1=(6)g2-(6)g4=(6-4)i4=(4-3)d4=(3)d8
==>d8<>2.UP=81

(For step 3 I am not quite sure,I need Steve's opinion,thanks)

I am a bit confused with both proposed solutions above. Justin, I do not quite understand your notation. I think that you are placing the candidate argument last? Does 6i2 mean candidate 2 at cell i6?
Sotir, I do not understand your step 2). The endpoints: (1)d7=(8)de8 is not sufficient More...

Steve,
First off, thanks for all of your posts, I've learned much from them. Now, on to today's puzzle.
I found all of the eliminations of your step 2 except for the elimination of 8 from b12 by using naked pairs, hidden pairs, and locked candidates. After that I spotted the elimination More...

Steve,
I believe that 4a) should read:
4a) (8)d5=(8-5)f5=(5-6)f2=(6)d2 => d2<>8
25/Jun/08 1:25 PM
 |  |
Steve,
Step 4c also implies g2<>9 due to locked 9's in g46 of box 6.
And I think the swordfish should read:
4d) sf 9 c48, e468, g46 => e4,f6,bdf8<>9
25/Jun/08 1:57 PM

Steve,
Now I've made typos, here's the (I think) correct version:
4d) sf 9 c48, e468, g46 => d4,f6,bdf8<>9

Jeff, thanks for catching my typos. I spend some time posting about sudoku at some other forums where they use different grid conventions. I tend to make mistakes in posts due to the lack of my ability to adjust well between the various grid conventions.

The order of steps is fairly More...

Sorry I didn't explain my notation. Rows are numbered from bottom to top, columns are lettered from left to right. 5c2 means the cell in row 5, column c has candidate 2.

After further review, Steve is correct. My solution is invalid because the very first step, 6i2==5h2, is invalid.
The second chain is valid, but the third (fc2)depends on the first, and so is also invalid.
Is it possible to delete a post and save everyone some time?
Sorry, my bad.
