Unusual on this level, but this puzzle has several "quads." Find them, and the puzzle unravels more easily.

Beautiful falls. Is this one of fi's?

I've seen these falls, but from the air. Guess that's better than not seeing them at all.

Judy, I'm not seeing any quads.

I really thought this was from southern Utah, namely the Colorado River, judging by the red rocks and green water, but there aren't too many falls joining the Colorado, as there aren't too many tributaries down there in the desert. Anyway, great photo!

A short path:

1) Start at 23,==>UP=26

2)depth 7 fc:(5)d89=(5-8)d2=(8-1)f2=(1)f6-(1)g6=(1)i4-(23)i45=(3-7)i2=(7)i8-(7)h7=(7)e7
==>d8<>7, e7<>5

3)fc: (7)c3=(7)h3-(7)i2=(7-8)i8=(8-1)i9=(1)c9
==>c3<>1,UP=44

4) fc: (7)i8=(7)i2-(7=8)h3-(8=3)h6-(3=2)i5
==> i8<>2, UP=81

11.29 I am sure this is one of Fi's. I love the commentary, thank you Fi. Sounds idyllic.

An even shorter path from UP 26:

Use the strong bilocation set 6h42 to chain around on itself via the strong 3i5h4 which forbids h4=2. UP 81

A path to solve this one – not too tough but too long, and hopefully valid path…
Start at 23 – Basic techniques UP26
1) Swordfish on 1’s : ce3, ei4, ci9 => c28, e26, i8<>1
2) (hp34)bc7=(5)c7 – (5)g7=(5-1)g8=(1)a8 => a8<>34
3) (hp17)ce3=(7)h3 – More...

Hi ttt,

Re your step 1 - I found a different Swordfish on 1's : ae2, fg6, ag8 - which led to the same eliminations of yours.

Many thankd for the rest of your steps - I am studying them carefully.

Best Regards,

Neil

ttt,
Every step looks valid to me and the length gave you plenty of opportunity to demonstrate useful techniques. Thank you for posting.

sotir,
I don't see how your second step can be valid. One of the strong links that you use in that step is (23)i45=(3)i2 but i4 can be 1 therefore this strong link is not valid. Can someone explain to me if my reasoning is incorrect?
27/May/08 2:52 PM
 |  |
Hi Jeff,
A=B – C=D meant that if B is true then C must be false
sotir’s step 2 : …=(1)i4 – (23)i45=(3)i2… If i4=1 then no relate to conclude i5=3 is false, can write (1)i4=(hp23)i45 – (3)i2= as AAICs can write (1)*i4={ …. (3)i5*=(3)i2…} and even this is correct then can’t conclude d8<>7 based on (5)d89=(7)e7.
sotir’s step 3 : how can (7)c3=(7)h3 ? Candidate 7’s still at e3…
