Morro Rock, Central Coast of California??

Judy - My thought exactly - looks like Morro Rock - Morrow Bay, south of Cambria (a delightful little town.) West of San Luis Obispo.

Looked easy at first, but took more time (35 mts.) than expected!

Anyone who visits California, needs to take California 1 up or down the Central Coast of California from San Luis Obispo to Pacific Grove. It is a beautiful and memorable drive. Pacific Grove (John Denver died just off of Lover's point) and is celebrated for its Monarch Butterflies. It is just More...

I didn't have too much trouble with this one. A hidden pair {h1h3=27}, an X-wing on 1's {c7c8h7h8}, and another hidden pair {g1i3+68} brought UP up to 34.

(1) 9 can be eliminated at b4. If b4=9, then 24+5, g5+5, c5+7, and there is no candidate for a5. Therefore b4=34, generating several More...

Listen to Eve, everyone: the drive along CA route 1 is absolutely breathtaking. My bride (of four years) and I did it in 1965 and we still want to do it again before... well, you know. Unfortunately, we had only two days available, but it was a spectacular drive.

Is this an island? An unusual rock? It is an interesting formation.

Eve you forgot to mention stopping to see the elephant seals located between Ragged Point and San Simeon. That is a favorite spot of mine. Both Cambria and Morro Bay are both tourist towns but worth stopping at. Walking the embarcadero in Morro Bay gives a nice view of Morro Rock, much prettier than my picture.

Eve,

Is that the area that is shown in the beginning of the movie Foul Play with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase with Barry Manilow singing Ready to Take a Chance Again as Goldie drives a VW bug down the coastline?

I agree with Gail. I thought the picture was from another world.

Also to add to Eve's travel suggestions: have a bite to eat (expensive bite) at Nepenthe in Big Sur. If you are camping, the California state park of Pfieffer Big Sur is fantastic. The smell of a redwood grove is so aromatic. *sigh* I miss parts of California so much!

During his last three years of college, our son could see Morro Rock from the window of his bedroom in the house he rented. He would set his alarm for 6 AM ... check the surf by the Rock ... and hit the waves if they looked promising. If the surf was flat, he would go back to sleep until he had classes!

Sorry Judy, I have to ask... Did he graduate? ;-) Just kidding, I'm sure he did.

I KNEW someone would question that! Yes ... with honors. And he DID make it to class after he surfed! :)

I second Julie's suggestion about Nepenthe in Big Sur, a beautiful spot for a romantic (or even just friendly) evening.

Maen! 22 minutes

My solution used a lot of hidden pairs to get started. Then there was a short chain that prohibited 5 from d6 => UP 56. Then a two link chain resolved the remaing pair in bottom right region.
