I believe they eventually got this floating and in for repairs. I certainly hope so, anyway.

Was that captain error? That's what reading your depth sounder is supposed to help avoid!

I took several photos of this ship parked untidily on the beach, one of which is very similar to this, but this is not my photo. The ship has been refloated, temporarily repaired, and towed back to Japan for more thorough repairs. The fate of the Captain, though, remains unknown.

I'm not sure Kathy - I get a comment with the pictures. This picture is different - but on Ian's site there is a wonderful close up picture which is one of my fav. I do enjoy the beach in the picture. Mary

Good picture, thanks Ian.
It was beached in a dreadful storm in June. Roads were washed away, floods, people killed. It's not the 1st boat that's been caught there after a storm, but it's the first one that's been got off the reef!

Greg, you make me smile!!
We actually had all the politians line up on the shore and the hot air blew it out to sea!!!

Greg, there were certainly a lot of spectators, so maybe they should have got them to help push while the tugs pulled! Because it took quite a few attempts to finally get it off!

What a terrible way to ruin a beautiful beach, but still a great shot of the beach

I agree with you, Gail. It must have been a doozy!

I wouldn't like to be on that ship during a bad storm.

It looks like a beautiful beach!
