We usually get at least one nest around the house every year. My FIL used to get rid of them by lighting a rolled up newspaper and holding it under the nest. He never got stung and I'll never know why - I call it 'Exposing your body to unnecessary risk'.
I like the photo Kate, not an easy one at all.

At least there are no wasps about! I have a couple of nests I keep forgetting to go out at night and spray to get rid of them.

You'd better BEE careful with these little critters! Wasp stings really hurt!

What's all the buzz about?

Those particular wasps' nests were on the ceiling of the old stables at Dundullimal in Dubbo, Ian! There were some new mud wasp nests on the beams of the verandah up the river. I meant to get a couple of photos & then knock them down - I did neither! They won't look so good by next weekend so probably won't get a photo, but I will knock them down!

I've just checked my book & that picture was submitted on 9th July last year, I don't remember doing it before & I haven't marked it off either. It's been sitting out there waiting in the wings for 9 months!

We have a red wasp nest 10m up a widdow maker gum and cant figure out how to get rid of it as it is about 1m long and 1/2m deep. Life is going to get interesting if it falls!

I hope that was with a zoom lens Kate! I don't like wasps. We have a shocking problem with European Wasps around here.

Gail, my FIL had a solution for the European Wasps. Remember that he was a Brit and fairly used to EW's. He went to the local chemist and bought a bottle of carbon tetrachloride (?), waited until dusk and all the wasps had returned to the nest, Poured come carbon tet down the hole and quickly sealed it. No more wasps.
Try it if you are game.

12 minutes. For a little while it was a smooth ride with locked candidates, but the end game required an elimination chain (or I missed something). It came so late that you could start it from several places and run into a contradiction after like 5 steps. I didn't spend much time looking for the shortest chain.
