Steve! Just did 2/6, OMFG is all I can say. I don't know what's tougher, doing the puzzle, proving the puzzle or understanding your explanation. My sensei, Ruud, calls it '3D Medusa'
coloring. Plotting multiple value chains for eliminations. Your either/or formulas must have been HUGE! Cute baby More...

This tough was a monster. It did not fall into place for me, and I'm not found of squirrels.
 |  |
No guesses today.
 |  |
Not a wimpy Florida squirrel. They have sparser tails.
 |  |
Happy Maen, everyone.

Hard to find nuts in the dark!

Depends on what nuts you're looking for ...

Just a quick glance at this puzzle today:

After a hidden pair, UP 31, a locked candidate:
Possible path: b8=59 => f3=5, depth 5, UP 81.

12:28; no guesses, fell into place with possibilities. All for a squirrel tail question mark!

Tough - Tough today ,but at the end we got a squrrel, not bad ,good night .
Nice maeN to everyone.

Not too fond of squirrels myself. Good picture though, hard to take them without it being blurry because they moved too fast.

Interesting, a swordfish practically out of the gate. Some naked quads, a skyscraper, then I wasn't seeing anything (long day) so just ended up coloring. Not as fun as some, not like the diabolical I commented on earlier. Had to comment here, wasn't topical when I got to the puzzle. regards all

Ah, the bush-tailed squirrel. We have sure had a lot in our yard this year.

Have a great evening everyone.

I solved this puzzle, but follow your comment after UP31 possible path b8=59 I did not see a chain with depth 5 => f3=5. Can you explain more? For me, maybe after UP33 (b5c3=6)...

Ah, the grey squirrel, AKA tree rat. They's gud eatin. Easiest way to take 'em is ta put peanut butter on the flick mechanism of ya skeet thowin' machine. When he come up ta lick it, PULL! Wap! You dun saved a 22 round! Ya gotta clean 'em gud, pound the meat wiff a mallet, let it soak all night in More...

First time with no guesses and I did it in 10.38... happy with that :o)

I have not checked the following for typos - and have not checked for shorter chains - but this is a reflection of the hints I have above:

A proof for tough sudoku of 02 08 2007:

1) Start at 23 filled - the given puzzle. Unique Possibilities to 27 filled. (UP 27).
2) Hidden More...

Upon careful review of the proof I have developed for the tough of 11/10/06 - I have decided to not blog that proof just yet. Instead, I probably will post a blog page reflecting more information about advanced forbidding chains.

 |  |
