The identifications all come from the Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds. It's Australia's equivalent to the Peterson Field Guide Series in North America.

note: Dec-27-08 SE=8.3 is an interesting challenge trying to minimize steps since there are so many possible paths and chains.

note: just posted new solution for Jan-1-09 SE=8.3 tough. Dave's effort at 11 chains again way too long and involved. This is an interesting puzzle for those wishing to excersise their skills using AUR sis.

-very nice kraken JC.
I would have written: (4)a8-(39')ah8=(3)g8, but I very much enjoy the employment of a Skyscraper in your first kraken chain (so far - among fish - I've only considered XWings and Swordfish).
