Thanks Judy - Everything went well - bloody warm though, by Canberra standards anyway. It's a long way to drive and the countryside is pretty dry. About twenty hours from Canberra.

I think I might get an invitation to the policemans ball - time will tell. I'm watching the mail with baited breath, so far so good.

First time I've been here, love playing puzzles and stuff, that's when I'm not too busy working or out riding my motorbike.

Yes Judy. That was a photo I took. I have seen many of them. They also occur in Normanton, but they are usually before dawn and a bit fluffy compared to Burketown. They are spectacular

Hugh, you will find that it won't be an invitation, it is probably a raffle!

TEDDY!!! ...who the hell is Tarrant???!!! Someone I should know about?? Must be footy, I'm a rugby and cricket girl myself...and what 'Reward' are you talking about? Does a lapsed catholic qualify for the reward??

Halloween is an annual celebration, but just what is it actually a celebration of? And how did this peculiar custom originate? Is it, as some claim, a kind of demon worship? Or is it just a harmless vestige of some ancient pagan ritual?
The word itself, 'Halloween,' actually has its origins in More...

The custom of trick-or-treating is thought to have originated not with the Irish Celts, but with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for 'soul cakes,' made out of square pieces of More...

To Chalkboard - We spent Christmas in Florida last year. My parents live in Cape Coral down by Fort Myers. We thoroughly enjoyed the 70 degree (F) weather we had every day. It was so nice to see the sun everyday also. I hope you enjoy your move.

To Nurn - Unfortuantely the legend of 'bad' candy was true in our neck of the woods. When my children were young I did not take them out on Halloween. Kids in our county were finding pins and razor blades and I didn't feel it was worth the risk. We would rent a special movie and I would buy More...

HUGH, nice to see you back! I love 'the origen of' stuff, so very much enjoyed your Halloween explanation. I lived in Mexico back in the 60s, and H. hadn't caught on outside of the American community; the Mexicans celebrate Nov 1 as El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). It has its own More...

Hey Anne - anyone from the Magpies doesn't sound like a good 'swap' somehow, does it? and will he be playing for the Eagles or the Dockers? and could he be a spy for Mick? Does he have nice legs?
