We rescued a pelican that was caught in fishing line. For such a large bird they weigh nothing! It just let us pick it up & untangle it, almost as if it knew we wanted to help!

Good on you Linda. I'm sure many others would have just walked right on by and left that pelican the way it was.

In 2009 the government will start deporting all of the weird old people.

I started crying when I thought of you.

Ian - love your pelican picture! I posted a few photos I took last month of one of our local pelicans. They are really fascinating birds!

We had a big storm pass through the north of
Brisbane last night. I was due at music practice at the worst of the storm, so I waited a bit until it settled down. Of course, I just drove into the back of what had passed overhead.
A friend couldn't leave home at all, as they had lost power. More...

Bloody daylight saving does it too me every time. Why isn't Queensland with the rest of the Country? I have never heard a reasonable reason yet. Probably the best one was that it is difficult to be the only man in a platoon that is in step!

Hello everyone! Haven't been around here much lately - seems like no one else has either!!
Daplap, loved your spelling poem.
We are struggling along with our bathroom remodeling. More & more I understand what poor Cathy of Ontario went through. Many things are having to be done two or three times because they weren't done right the first time! Very aggravating.

Mamacita & Kathy - we may have to temporarily become enemies instead of friends if the Phillies end up playing the Rays in the World Series! We Tampa Bay fans loved it last night when the Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 13-4!!! We'll have to wait until tomorrow night to see if they can get that 4th win. My fingers are crossed

i have a question i have been pondering on. why do the american people need to hear an english accent to take anything seriously? every judging panel on talent programs MUST have an english accent, every luxury car commercial has to have an eng. accent speaking its praises. headache commercials, More...

Oh I don't know, Mariana. Maybe because it sounds exotic to us? When I was a child, I guess I must have had a slight Japanese accent on my English but I was fully functional in English. So I was placed in speech classes in elementary school. Now I speak very articulately without many of the slangs because that was drummed out of me and people think I must be a foreigner!

Today, on the second day of antihistamines, I am beginning to feel human again. The hot Santa Anas plus the massive fires in San Fernando Valley have cut short the children's recess time due to many having breathing problems and the asthmatic ones have been absent.
16/Oct/08 10:43 AM

those fires have been all over the news...so scary! poor kids! i know mine get really fidgety if they don't have active play time. poor teacher too!

Daplap, that was grate! Is it original? Well, yes, somebody wrote it -- but was it you?
16/Oct/08 10:53 AM

Funny you should say that Mariana, because in Australia, everything requires an American twang.
Commercials, judges on dancing contests, modelling contests etc. Even ordinary Australians speak more and more like Americans.
It's just the reverse of what you are questioning.

1:37 Good Morning all.

Once upon a time Australian actors in America wouldn't be employed unless they spoke with a perfect American accent!
16/Oct/08 11:05 AM
 |  |

Local accents are changing because more people travel to many more places & accents are also influenced by TV & movies. Years ago I could pick the State an Australian came from by differences in accent (I moved around a lot as a child!), but it's much more difficult now!
