Karen - I was hoping your avatar didn't reflect how you were feeling this morning. I figured it must have something to do with us older persons! 02/Oct/11 12:04 AM |  |
everyone! Long time, no see!Our lovely sister-city guests went home yesterday evening. 02/Oct/11 12:09 AM |  |
We had two 21-year old German girls with us for 10 days. Had a great time shopping, doing the big roller coasters at Cedar Point, shopping at an outlet mall, touring Mackinac Island, cruising the Soo locks, shopping, feeding black bears, visiting Indiana's Amish country, touring the "Big House" - including the locker rooms - etc. Fun, fun, fun! 02/Oct/11 12:16 AM |  |
Note to the U of M fans... I stepped on the sacred "M" in the locker room! (Something about bad luck...) 02/Oct/11 12:19 AM |  |
Sounds like a great time, Shiela - been to Amish country, but would love to tour Mackinac Island. 02/Oct/11 12:19 AM |  |

The interview went well yesterday, I think. I was there a little over 2 hours. Took the long way home and stopped in a couple of quilt shops, then visited my Aunt. Finished off the day by spending time with some of my classmates at the Homecoming Football game. One classmates daughter was in the Court. Beverages afterward at local pub. 02/Oct/11 12:26 AM |  |
Today is a get together with the ladies of the class, followed by the wedding of the son of an old boyfriend....yes, I was invited! 02/Oct/11 12:27 AM |  |
Oh... did I tell you that our neighbor called while we were on a bus trip 350 miles away in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan - aka 'UP' - to tell us that one of our trees had fallen on our roof? (A wonderful call to get when you can do nothing about it, by the way!) They are taking it down off the roof as we speak. Looked terrible, but not too much damage. 02/Oct/11 12:35 AM |  |
Best of luck, Sarah Beth! Hope you get an offer! 02/Oct/11 12:37 AM |  |
Just wondering.... Anything happen in Sudoku-land while I was gone that I should know about? 02/Oct/11 12:39 AM |  |
As for Jacks ritual: Two big beers and two 4n20 pies. For those of us who don't / didn't know.... The popular brand Four'N'Twenty produces 50000 pies per hour and Australians consume an average of 12 meat pies each per year. The average consumption of meat pies in New Zealand is More... 02/Oct/11 12:41 AM |  |
everyone! I am taking a break from manning the garage sale. Mostly to warm up! 54° and windy out there! I'll go back in about an hour after I thaw out. 02/Oct/11 12:46 AM |  |
everyone. Shiela, glad to have you back with us. Sounds like you showed your German visitors a great time. I'd like to make reservations for that same tour, especially the Big House part!! I never knew about the sacred "M" in the locker room. If Mich. loses today, I might have to blame YOU! 02/Oct/11 12:49 AM |  |
Sarah Beth, glad your interview went well & you are having a fun weekend with your friends & relatives. 02/Oct/11 12:50 AM |  |

 Have I returned in time for a little thrill? 02/Oct/11 12:51 AM |  |
Guess not, must not have had enough prune juice this morning. 02/Oct/11 12:52 AM |  |
Thought sure Karen would sneak in for that #22. Maybe it was mine today because I qualify as an "Older Person"? 02/Oct/11 12:53 AM |  |
Sheila, did you get to see the GRand Hotel on Mackinac Island? Ever since I saw "Somewhere in Time" I have wanted to see that hotel. I saw pictures of in on the PC but it's very expensive to stay there. Loved the movie though. Am I 22? 02/Oct/11 12:54 AM |  |
Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Sarah Beth...glad the interview went well! 02/Oct/11 12:54 AM |  |
So much in a hurry to be 22 that I didn't proof read that. Sorry all. 02/Oct/11 12:56 AM |  |
While I'm here.... The answers to yesterday's puzzle (sent to the "Are you going to hog all the gin, Fiona?" inbox) were:1. con-notation, con-version 2. con-strain 3. con-tact 4. con-tour 5. con-tribute Speaking of booze, winners, HalT, Greg, lonewoof, Grumblebum, and More... 02/Oct/11 12:56 AM |  |

And for today..... Can you decipher this rebus: GthOewiNndE Answers to the "Who the heck has a garage sale in 50° weather?" inbox, please. 02/Oct/11 1:04 AM |  |
 33?!! 02/Oct/11 1:05 AM |  |
Nonsense, Kathy. You enjoy a little 22 in your day.I am enjoying my first cup of hot chocolate of the season. I have waited for this cup since the end of the hot chocolate season in February. In a few hours it will hot again outside, so I am enjoying my cool, peaceful morning and maybe another cup of hot chocolate. 02/Oct/11 1:06 AM |  |
DotCom, I had lunch at the Grand Hotel while on Mackinac Island! Very posh - even at lunch time! I sat on the massive front porch overlooking the Straits of Mackinaw and rocked in one of their white wicker rockers, too. 02/Oct/11 1:21 AM |  |
Did not see any ghost of Christopher Reeve while there, unfortunately. (Photos, yes, ghosts, no.) 02/Oct/11 1:23 AM |  |
Girls from Bavaria were very impressed when the waiter took their napkins, shook the napkin with a flourish to open them up and put them on the girls' laps for them. 02/Oct/11 1:28 AM |  |
My daughter in NC just texted me that our 7 year old grandson, playing in a touch football game this morning, caught a pass & ran 60 yards for a touchdown!! Wish we could have been at THAT game, but it's still exciting to hear about. 02/Oct/11 1:30 AM |  |
Do you realize that this is the second time a tree has come down in our yard while we were on vacation? Makes one a bit hesitant about leaving one's house! Poor cat... He hid for two days afterwards. He had been in the habit of sleeping in the room where the tree hit. He was probably right under it! Not too good for his diabetes control. 02/Oct/11 1:32 AM |  |
Congrats to your grandson, Kathy! 02/Oct/11 1:33 AM |  |
