We came for the games,
Started revealing our names,
And soon we had made many friends.
We laugh and we joke,
And poke fun at some folks,
And sometimes we must make amends.

Sometimes our 'cute' words,
Misunderstood or not heard,
Create a brief bright flash of More...

Between CG's post & hearing on the news that several cities in Oregon have already used their entire years budget for snow removal & that the snow pack in the costal range is over 300% of normal, I recalled the following:

In 1949 it snowed in Los Angeles. I couldn't go to school for More...

You couldn't go to school because of 3" of snow, Eve? I remember walking a mile to school in Michigan in snow above my waist. Every time I took a step, my legs disappeared. The roads were plowed, but we just approximated the location of the sidewalks! 65* here today, too!

Judy, wasn't it the worst when there was a crust on top of the snow, so just when you thought you could walk along the top of it, your boot would break through and knock you off balance!

It did get to around 10" by the next morning & I built a snowman. I lived 10 miles from the school that I attended (it was not a local school) & the road between Sunland & Sun Valley (attened school in No. Hollywood) was not plowed for over a day & there was no bus service for More...

Judy: BTW: The street I lived on was dirt & none of the streets (including the paved) in the neighborhood had sidewalks. Even when I was in High School, the main drag had curbs but in many areas no sidewalks. Maybe that's why - when I was in elementary school (No. Hollywood), they said I lived in the boonies (Sunland/Tujunga). Both are/were areas of the City of Los Angeles (North/East).

An Irishman walks into a bar in Dublin, orders three pints of Guiness and sits at the back of the room, taking a drink from each pint in turn.

Judy - I am a wuss! The older I get, the more I dislike heat and humidity & find that the 20's are not near as bad as I use to think. I guess I've climatized to Oregon. But, I don't think that I could take the temps they have in MN, WI, MI & Canada & Alaska. Nor, could I More...

A woman from Los Angeles, who was a tree hugger and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland, near Grants Pass, Oregon. There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract.

She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. More...

Greg, it was kind of you to offer but no thanks.
One of my very few unpleasant memories of Canada was the daily chore of shovelling snow from the driveway. I learnt quickly that if you don't clear the snow and drive over it, the snow compacts into ice and that is very difficult to remove. By More...

Blue-eyed people 'inbred mutants'

Blue-eyed people are genetic mutants who spawned as a consequence of inbreeding thousands of years ago, a new study has revealed.
