all to The United States of America's "Indepence Weekend". Take time to think & study what is being celebrated.

A resent poll found that many "Americans" did not even know what the "4th of July" is about. It's a holiday, we shoot off More...

Keith - long way to 22!!

Wow! That German team was dy-no-mite! They are gonna win the Cup!
04/Jul/10 1:49 AM
 |  |

I assume that means Germany beat Argentina?
04/Jul/10 1:52 AM

That was a soccer clinic by Germany - Argentina shouldn't have bothered turning up! 4-0 was a good indication of how lop-sided the match was.

2:22 to you all from Portland, Oregon, where the sun shines once again.

It's always amazing to me that a country can put together a top-rate team of players who, more often than not, regularly play AGAINST each other professionally. Germany certainly has the right formula!!!

Wow - I thought from what I had heard that Argentina might be favored? I don't have the right channels on tv to watch, so I can only go by what the radio "guys" around here say, and most of them know almost nothing about soccer (football).

Glad the sun is shining on Portland - not in my part of Texas yet. My s-i-l that has a hay-baling business is having a GREAT year - the rain has really cooperated. He is getting 3 to 4 times the hay he got last year from most fields.

In the semifinal (I am assuming Spain will defeat Paraguay later today), I'm sure Germany will prevail because they play as a team; whereas Spain's superheroes tend to play as individuals. In any case, I will miss World Cup when it comes to an end. I will NOT, however, miss those blasted vuvuzelas!

Jamie - today's matches are on ABC.

What a game. Well done Germany; and how fun to watch Angela Merkel when Germany scored.
And now off to watch the beginning of Le Tour de France. Tough weekend for someone who is not normally into sports.
04/Jul/10 2:20 AM
 |  |

Thanks, Jane!!
04/Jul/10 2:22 AM
 |  |

Ingrid, it's even tougher for someone who is into sport. In addition to the football and the start of le Tour, there's cricket on at the moment (England v Australia) and the women's final at Wimbledon was on earlier tonight (well done Serena!)

Chris - I'm in your boat! Although there's not much on TV that I watch regularly (I'm more of a participant), ALL of my favorite stuff has been on the tube the past couple of weeks, so I'm slowly being turned into a couch potato - kicking and screaming I might add!
04/Jul/10 2:37 AM
 |  |

That being said, I'm now off for a bike ride before the next World Cup match comes on!!!

Does anybody know which (European or international) channels show cricket? I've only managed to get half a game in about 15 years and would love to see more. But Chris, maybe it is already enough for this weekend.

everyone! Already did my four mile run (well, run and walk, my ankles aren't quite up to the continuous run) Did answer Eve's query.

Jane, I'm going to try to post pic of my new Crocs. I know you're going to cry heresy! But hey they do have the official metal clip that says "Crocs"!!! And in bubble gum and fushia!

Good afternoon to all! Up and down weather here in Ottawa. The last few days we were lucky to get a high of 16 C. Today and the next three days the forecast is for 30 c plus. Then it cools down again.... to 29 C for the rest of the week!

Well Keith, I see you have adopted the "What Avatar?" avatar. Good stuff!

Yes Kathy and Shosho answered correctly - maybe a little thought had to go into it.

Jane et al: I missed most of the game this morning as I was out and about but from the score, it doesn't look like I missed a close match. I'd like to see Germany and the Netherlands in the final game, but with the way things are going this year, who knows?

For those already celebrating and enjoying the July 4th weekend in the USA and elsewhere, Enjoy and drive safe!

I shall wait until tomorrow to wish fellow Americans a Happy Independence Day.

But look forward to the fireworks show at a local park. I will miss the military ones. They give the best shows! But family is scattered and not close to a Marine camp.
