Morning everybody... Jane thanks for the info on Grannie=Gannie...I was in the same boat as RR. I had presumed that somewhere along the line I had misread it. Welcome back Fiona...LOVE your photos. What sort of camera do you use... not that I think that the wonderful choice of subjects has anything to do with the type of camera you use... 05/Sep/08 11:16 AM |  |

The photo was taken on my birthday! I wonder if the Swan River in Perth is a tidal river, wide and brackish, or a great river from inland? I thought except for an area near Perth, W.A. was rather dry. Did Billy take this pic? 05/Sep/08 12:40 PM |  |
QUOTE FOR THE DAY:(I just recieved this in an e'mail and thought it worthy of sharing) 'Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you More... 05/Sep/08 12:40 PM |  |
I'm with NAL in Miami: Ike, stay away! I put up my hurricane shutters and am getting the papers and photo albums ready should I have to evacuate. My home is in a mandatory evacuation zone should a Cat 4 or 5 come- but I will leave if it hits 3, because if it strengthens into a Cat 4 close to More... 05/Sep/08 12:52 PM |  |
 Good one Anne All 05/Sep/08 12:53 PM |  |
Anne - hehehe!Fiona - Welcome Home! Visited your gallery and was very impressed with your beautiful photos.Kate - I'm so glad your dad is doing so well that he can travel home...now it's time for ou to enjoy your home! 05/Sep/08 12:56 PM |  |
Anne, that was a good one right on! 05/Sep/08 12:56 PM |  |
I think this is a good time to mention that Homeowner's Insurance in USA does not cover flood damage. The National Flood Insurance Program allows any homeowner to buy Flood Insurance for about 350 dollars. It is the best bargain going. I urge all Americans to get flood insurance, even uphill folks. You never know when a sewer will plug or a hose gets left on and fills a basement. 05/Sep/08 12:58 PM |  |
Fay, Gustav, what was H?, Ike, Josephine. What is with these storms coming so close together. This Global Warming is like Anne's Quote for Today and the lady is Mother Nature! I know the scientists have been talking of the hydrologic cycle going to the extreme but I really don't recall so many severe storms coming one after another in such a short period of time! 05/Sep/08 1:01 PM |  |
Hey Shosho - how's school going? Miss you in the mornings Angie - love your broom and keep on dancing...we need rain out our way!Mariana - 05/Sep/08 1:02 PM |  |
Jim my prayers are going to you, my BIL, and all who are the path of these guys. 05/Sep/08 1:04 PM |  |
I like that one, Anne! You are right, Jim. Many homeowners in the Denver metro area have been hit with flash floods...at a mile high! 05/Sep/08 1:06 PM |  |

I miss the early morning comments! But I have a sweet class this year, very chatty but so far no meanness! It's only been two days but they're taking up my challenge for deeper thinking! I love the way they're are coming in eager to learn. They think that this is fun! I've kidded my shy ones More... 05/Sep/08 1:07 PM |  |
 Shosho...HANNA.... ongoing threat up the east coast. 05/Sep/08 1:07 PM |  |
I love this class and look forward to this year. I told my students, I don't care what the other teachers' kids are doing, they're MY kids and I am going to make them succeed. 05/Sep/08 1:10 PM |  |
Shosho - so glad you have a sweet class. My stepdaughter who is an 8th grade science teacher has had 2 years of wonderful kids...but this year the groups seem not as good. It will be a great learning experience for her as she is a fairly new teacher...just got her tenure. 05/Sep/08 1:11 PM |  |
OOOHHHHH, wow, Hanna, oy vey. Do you recall any time you heard of more than one or two storms in one news story in one day long ago? 05/Sep/08 1:12 PM |  |
Jim... TWICE my idiot husband has flooded the basement (finished, of course) with a hose he left running, and not only did our homeowners insurance cover it, but our agent had pros here to clean up the mess less than an hour after I discovered it. They did say that they didn't want it happening again. We have KY Farm Bureau. 05/Sep/08 1:13 PM |  |
 Shosho - In 2004 and 2005 we had hurricanes one after another! 05/Sep/08 1:14 PM |  |
Wonderful, Vici! I enjoy the company of new teachers, they always have the sense of awe that they're doing the teaching! This year I have 3 young teachers to work with and all are on different schedules. Argh, One's on B track and is off now and another is on C track and will be going off in More... 05/Sep/08 1:15 PM |  |
And which was the one that kept coming - and going - and coming - and going??? Was that Charley in 2004? 05/Sep/08 1:16 PM |  |
Shosho - hope your Brandon and your DIL are safe. It looks like Hanna will make landfall somewhere between Edisto Beach, SC & the Outer Banks, NC - that puts Wilmington NC right smack dab in the middle! 05/Sep/08 1:17 PM |  |
I don't remember the name Jane, but I do remember one around then that was as erratic as Fay. 05/Sep/08 1:18 PM |  |
Ok Jane I was oblivious those years. What was I doing? Oh yeah, I was enjoying the major bone graft surgery in my ankle and ended up teaching from a wheel chair for three months and then had a delightful year with my PT (not physical therapist, I had a personal torturer!) 05/Sep/08 1:19 PM |  |
Jim - how do you guys rate \$350 flood insurance? Ours is closer to \$600. 05/Sep/08 1:19 PM |  |
Oh dear, I think I need to call my DIL and see how she is. She was traumatized by a tornado that went through Chicago when she was living there somewhere between 2000-2002. They told her to get and drive to safety. She drove and drove and drove to the next state to her grandparents and never went back for her belongings! 05/Sep/08 1:22 PM |  |
Hurricane Ivan in 2004 was the storm I was thinking of. Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia: Ivan caused catastrophic damage to Grenada and heavy damage to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and the western tip of Cuba. After peaking in strength, the hurricane moved north-northwest across the Gulf of Mexico to More... 05/Sep/08 1:24 PM |  |
The firemen told her to get out of her apartment and drive to safety. 05/Sep/08 1:24 PM |  |
Well, night my dear friends like Jamie, I have a load of papers to grade. I have to assess what skills my students are coming in with. Oooh that's terrible I ended the sentence with a preposition. Just make sure my students don't see this! 05/Sep/08 1:27 PM |  |
