Fi, I hope that's the start of many that I've posted. I hope you have submitted plenty of the Scottish Highlands for us to see. It sounds like you had a lovely holiday. I spent a couple of days in Scotland a couple of years ago but only really near Edinburgh

FI - Hope you will let Easy folks know if any of your photos are shown on Hard. I don't have time to check all photos every day, but would love to see some of the Scottish Highlands. That's another place on my Wish List to visit someday.

Kathy, there are probably hundreds of them situated here in the valley and the source of the salt is a small spring coming out the mountainside. It's quite incredible. They leave the pans to dry and then use and sell the salt, I believe. It's quite a spectacular sight to look down on them. The photo doesn't do them justice.

Love the photo Anne! I remember Ollantaytambo as ground zero for the inca trail. A glimpse of things to come.

Interesting that the spring water would contain enough salt to make this endeavor worthwhile!

Ian, sobbing because it's cheap? or is it expensive? Tired mind can't do conversion at 0430- think it's $17.60 a kilo (US$ I presume).

mAen all. Incredibly picture...looks like a scary ride, heighth-wise.

Calculator helped - about $23.50 AUS. About right for here, or maybe up to $29kilo. Hard to tell, because meat cuts not exactly the same.

I have just submitted a photo looking up to where our bus dropped us off. It was a downhill trek so was very easy. It will probably be weeks if it makes it onto here.
to Martha, I didn't hear of the Shining Path people, and no, we didn't have any trouble whatsoever while in Peru. I did while in Santiago in Chile, though.

That's an amazing photograph. I was wondering where the source of the salt was, given that the pans appeared to cling to a mountainside.
