maen all! do they cook and mush them up like a poi or are they good the way they are? i'd try them once. that sort of fruit is usually pretty bitter from my experiences.

These are LOTUS pods, not lily pods. You've probably heard of Lotus eaters. (read The Odyssey by Homer)

They are lotus pods as Heidi has identified and I have had them in a dish when in China. Just another vegetable.

I just had to ask my friend Mr Google! Apparently the whole lotus plant is edible. It used as a food in China, India & Hawaii.
