Imposing architecture. Is this an old photo or deliberately shot in black and white?

Black and white really brings out the details

I've been there. We were told it is made of travertine and that it "weeps" calcite so it always looks white despite pollution. It is built on the highest point in the city and has the 2nd highest view (from the dome) after the Eiffel Tower. It is lighted at night (when we were there) and it is mind blowing beautiful!!

Looks like a black and white day

maen all! i thought it was a color pic taken on a dreary cloudy day. nice edifice. great stonework like most of the great cathedrals.

The photograph is a recent one - I took it in 2007. I like to use black & white occaisionally - it stops the eye being distracted on colour and allows you to focus on details youwould otherwise miss. It was actually a lovely sunny day!
