We've just had a beach disaser of our own here in Kaap Stad. 55 false killer whales beached themselves very early Sat morning on the beach near our home and in spite of a massive attempt to get them back into the water only 10 survived. The rest were euthenased late in the afternoon when it became apparent that we were not going to be able to help them and they were very traumatised.

How very sad, Lucy. Has it been determined why the whales beached themselves?

maen all! just took a 5 day maiden voyage on my son's new boat up the hudson river to lake champlain. passed where they're dredging the pcb laden area near glens falls...looked like nice clean sand to us. a shame about the whales...sometimes they just seem to get disorientated and whole pods will beach...i've seen it in florida a few times...all healthy too!

Sad, indeed.
