Happy Mother's Day to all the Mum's in other parts of the world where it is Sunday 14th.Had a wonderful day yesterday with my family and Mum is looking and feeling great. There were seven Mum's and one Mum to be (Nicole) gathered together at the park. My Mum, my sister, my sister's daughter-in-law, her Mum, my brother's wife, her Mum, and me. |  |
My wish is for all to have a happy Mother's day whether it's yesterday or today. Those who really know will treat each day as Mother's day because, good or bad, each mother will treasure each memory,no matter the day. They will also pray for their children to grow up and then want them to be small More... |  |

I have just read yesterdays comments, as I always have to catch up if I haven't been been on the pc. Beehive, don't let the uninformed commentors get to you. This was said to me when I was receiving ridiculous posts and/but I know how hard it is not to have some of the comments hurt, or, if not More... |  |
Rose, I love your 'Reflections of a Parent'. |  |
An elderly gentleman (mid-90s), very well dressed, hair well groomed, great-looking suit, flower in his lapel, smelling slightly of a good after-shave, presenting a well-looked-after image, walks into a cocktail lounge.Seated at the bar is an elderly lady (mid-80s). He walks over, plants More... |  |
Deb, they're called 'bed-blockers' here, as though it was their own fault that they have no support systems in place. It's penalising people for becoming ill at an advanced age!!! 'How dare they' is the implication. |  |
 3:01, best yet..way to end a good Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to you all. |  |
A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem. While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, 'You can have her shipped home for \$5,000, or you can bury her here, in the Holy Land for \$150.'The man thought about it and told him he would just More... |  |
A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her.She immediately, moved to another seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. The man seemed more amused. When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing, she More... |  |
 - --THE SENILITY PRAYER : Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference. |  |
--- Remember: You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing. |  |
--- I've sure gotten old.! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees. Fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. More... |  |

Good maEn all! I had a wonderful Mother's Day! My husband fixed me a terrific omelet for breakfast. I went to the horse races with my mom & 4 sisters. Deb, the hospital bed thing is not new. When the social security system was developed, human life expectancy was 65. So a retirement age of 65 meant half the people who paid in wouldn't receive any benefits. Now with life expectancy being 75, most people are living well beyond what was expected so More... |  |

Warren - that's exactly what I teach my students - and that by the time that they retire, the retirement age will probably be 70 (it's 60 in Oz)! But there is the added stress on the system in that we are in negative population growth and so there will be fewer people in jobs being taxed to pay for More... |  |
I work at a hospital in a town with predominantly older people utilising the services. There is never a suggestion of saving beds for younger people. I think that mentality belongs to large metro hospitals. There are alot of people that abuse the hospital system and have an over dependancy on More... |  |
Solution could be encourage your children to either become doctors and nurses (or hospital administrators) or teach them to look after their aged folk (which will be you) at home. Thats what I'm doing. tehe! |  |
Another solution: have lots of children to provide a future workforce and social network. You know, like Peter Costello suggested: one for each parent and one more for Australia. :-) |  |
