CG, I was familiar with all the the oldies except ''butch wax.'' I was thinking it might be some kind of bikini wax used by ladies of the alternate persuasion! :)

Butch wax was sort of a misnomer because it wasn't necessary on a butch, but was a must on the sides of a flattop.

Keith, I thought a butch was a type of flattop. I always think of Sgt. Carter's on Gomer Pyle.

CG and others, I confess to recognizing all of them. (I knew about butch wax because I had a brother about 2 years older and another about 2 years younger. I don't know what brand they used, but it smelled good.)

Hi, DAVE! I hope your travels have been going well. Vroom, vroom!

JANE, Mamacita will readily admit to her age ... she's dang proud of it!

God bless the family of Corporal Scherer. ''Where have all the flowers gone?''

To me, a butch is all the same length, about a quarter of an inch, and not combed at all, while a flat top uses the wax to make the hair all stand up straight and it is cut to be falt on the top. In some styles the sides were combed back instead of up. Then there was the can opener with a DA, but that's another thing all together.

er ... flat on the top.

CG, I checked out Beany and Cecil. I wasn't familiar with that cartoon because we only got CBS on our black and white TV!

Cecil the sea sick sea serpent ... I knew him well.

I checked out Beany and Cecil and don't have any recollection of the show but I do remember the Bob Clampett Cartoon theme song, the way Cecil sings 'Cartoooooon'. BTW I scored way too high!

Keith, around here we call a flatop a butch and vicy versy. What you call a butch we call a crewcut. It must be a regional thing. But, I believe we're thinking of the same thing.
My brother wanted a DA. Dad told him that when he could beat him arm wrestling then my brother could have one. He never got it.

For the oldies, this was Julie Andrew's version to ''My Favorite Things'' which she sang when she turned 69.
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favorite things.

I must admit I knew all 25. Mamacita, I was on the east coast and knew of blackjack gum and butch wax -- I had three brothers; might've helped.
There was also Beechnut fruit stripe gum with it's silly ittle dance.
Did anybody else ever watch the old Tarzan movies where they were forever More...

I think you can order it on line year round, but then maybe it is better to savor it for brief periods.

CG - Still don't recall it.
Judy, Judy...too much time isolated in the mountains can do strange things to your mind. I had a flat top all through Jr. and Sr High and used lots of butch wax. We are in Rexburg, Idaho just north of Idaho Falls. On a good day, we have a view of the Grand Tetons. More...

I just read this on a perpetual calendar and thought it appropriate following Greg's posting earlier: I especially like it because it happened to be on my birthdate.

Forgetting is only a sign that one has acquired too much information through with to sift.

of course, that should have been
'which' to sift.
