 I have a guest. Gotta go. Have a pleasant day everyone. 29/Aug/10 12:01 AM |  |
Good Maen friends! Love your creepy avatar, Jane.Been busy with family visiting over the past week and haven't had my Sudoku fix...so off I go to the puzzles! 29/Aug/10 12:04 AM |  |
These window feeders are so cool - up close and personal with the little fellas. Boy was my time slow - definitely out of practice. 29/Aug/10 12:08 AM |  |
everyone. My daughter arrives this afternoon. I am looking forward to having her visit. I have two feeders for humming birds and really enjoy watching them feed. My feeders do not have the perches but the birds feed and them seem to fly up and check the level of the nectar left. They will do this repeatedly. 29/Aug/10 12:29 AM |  |
Have a lovely time with your daughter, OH...I have 5 hummer feeders around the house and have to refill them almost every other day. It's super fun to watch the hummer wars - fighting over the feeders...lots of buzzing going on! 29/Aug/10 12:31 AM |  |
Morning. Vici, we have that here too (the amusing bird wars) They get very territorial. 29/Aug/10 12:33 AM |  |
 29/Aug/10 12:36 AM |  |
Vici and Shannon ... do you have more than one species of hummer battling? Here, one is always dominant, and I was curious if the same result occurs at your feeders! 29/Aug/10 12:36 AM |  |
Hmmm, never saw a cat "duck walk" before... 29/Aug/10 12:37 AM |  |
A neighbor of mine had 4 feeders widely spaced in his yard. One large (dominate) humming bird seemed to spend most of his time and energy trying to keep the other smaller birds away from all of "his" feeders. 29/Aug/10 12:40 AM |  |

Off for a long bike ride to undo the damage. Ciao! 29/Aug/10 12:47 AM |  |
I guess I didn't know there were different species Judy. I can only tell the different colors but I thought that was a male/female thing. There are the little all brown ones. Then there's one w/ vibrant green and one with red. I'm obviously not a 'birder' 29/Aug/10 12:53 AM |  |
Donning my fall colors. We're having a cloudy, cool day (and another predicted tomorrow) that is putting me in my happy Autumn mood. I think we will be back up into the heat again next week, but I'm dreaming of the chill in air of Autumn! 29/Aug/10 12:56 AM |  |
 everyone!!! 29/Aug/10 12:57 AM |  |
Usually there's two fighting it out. The other night though there were three all flying after each other right in a row. Ours are spaced out like that too Jerry so you'd think they could each just pick one and be happy 29/Aug/10 12:57 AM |  |
We do have a number of different species at our house. I haven't noticed one being more dominant than the other - just the males fighting over feeder territory. I'm going to have to pay closer attention Judy...thanks! 29/Aug/10 12:58 AM |  |

Oh goodie! That one is dedicated to our Wombat man, Keith! He must be sleeping in. 29/Aug/10 12:59 AM |  |
Autumn is my favorite season Vici. I miss living in New England and the colors there and getting to wear all those fun fall clothes. We don't really have an 'autumn' here. And yes the aspen golds are pretty but nothing like the colors of New England 29/Aug/10 1:00 AM |  |
I did get a feeder as a gift but haven't put it up yet. But I do have plants hummingbirds like to visit. Right now we have Anna's hummingbirds but I have seen Rufous ones come by. The mating flights have me scrambling out of range. Little kamikaze males are visible on the lower part of their amazing daredevil flights! 29/Aug/10 1:00 AM |  |
Wow Vici that was fast!!! I'm still gasping! 29/Aug/10 1:01 AM |  |
But then New England doesn't have the scent of roasting Hatch chilis wafting through the air.... 29/Aug/10 1:03 AM |  |
If I sit on my porch in a brightly colored shirt I become part of the buzzing circuit: shirt, flowering baskets, feeders and back again 29/Aug/10 1:06 AM |  |
It sounds as if the Rufous Hummingbirds might be dominant everywhere they visit! (Uh ... that's "brown" to you, Shannon. ) Here in the mountains, they constantly chase the Broad-tailed and Calliope varities. At home, we only have the Anna's, but they still chase each other all the time. 29/Aug/10 1:27 AM |  |
Jaime and I were lucky enough to have seen some giant hummingbirds on trips to Brazil. I took some pictures, but since that was way before we had a computer or digital camera, I would have to search through old albums, and I'm not sure I have the patience for that today. This is shaping up to be a laaaaaaaaazzzzzzy day, I'm afraid. 29/Aug/10 1:39 AM |  |
Seems the site has "stalled". 29/Aug/10 2:25 AM |  |

Good afternoon to all! That is a great picture! Kudos to the photographer! 29/Aug/10 3:06 AM |  |
Thanks for your concern folks, but all is well. I was traveling to be a pall bearer at a funeral. I'm home now and have responded to your emails. Cheers! 29/Aug/10 3:08 AM |  |
Pretty hummer picture today. I have 8 feeders up all summer. This spring we didn't have as many hummer's as normal. Then it got HOT, they all seemed to decend on my house. I now have to fill the feeders twice a day to keep them happy. 29/Aug/10 3:09 AM |  |
We only get the ruby throat hummers, of course only the males have the ruby throat. I have made the mistake of wearing my red and yellow tee shirt out side. Guess they thought I was on giant feeder. The hummers usualy start coming here the middle of April and start leaving the middle of September. 29/Aug/10 3:19 AM |  |
Welcome back Greg. Thanks, Judy for the explanation. (I'm the same way with plants, too. "What's that plant? A yellow one") So then what are the Anna's? Jane, I thought you were finding out about ski trips today? 29/Aug/10 3:21 AM |  |
Good afternoon people of the world.Tried my best to stay in bed as long as possible. I think I made it an extra 15 minutes. Upon awakening, I learned that Man was taking the girl's shopping. YIPPEE! You go dad! You're the man. It took him over an hour to get them out the door and then had to More... 29/Aug/10 3:22 AM |  |
