I continue to ponder Ian's question about why it is that exception proves the rule. It makes me wonder in what particular context the phrase first emerged, and then why it took hold as a concept itself. Are there instances in which the exception does prove the rule?

A comment "boys will be oragutans" would be used in irony. As it is witty it would be acceptable - unless, in context, it was used to ridicule a particular, individual boy in suggesting he was of a simian disposition.

I used to teach in a 'sump' school, and to describe some of the boys there as orangutans would be an grave insult to orangutans.

Sorry Plum, the only thing I can announce at the moment is that there is no comfortable spot. I have visited two of my couches, the desk chair, the bed and another seating spot and none of the hold any comfortable position for me or laying position. There is two places I have not tried, but the toddler bed and baby bed both have weight limits on them.

Oh, Heidi, what have I ever done to you? First, you threaten me with throttling and now you curse me with twins. (I am teasing)
I am thinking I am getting pay back from having a wonderful first pregnancy and not realizing it at the time. I was able to sleep for the most of it, no weight gain, (9 pounds), and I had feet. it was a wonderful time, 3 years ago.

Jill, I realize that it took you quite a while, but you did produce a wonderful piece of art. Well done!

Karen, I was doing fairly well on the guesses I think, as none so far were incorrect. As to that one you have doubt about, did your mother try to apply that to you as well??

As mentioned yesterday, it is that time of the year when Queensland plays NSW in the state of origin. I've got my maroon jersey waiting for tonight.

Jerry - glad your leg cramps have disappeared! Watch your intake of Gatorade, however. It's loaded with high fructose corn syrup which is BAAAAAAAAAD for you!!! I think there are still some similar products around that are made with sugar, but they're disappearing from the marketplace.

My Doctor made me stop drinking Gatorade. It did awful things to my legs. She said Gatorade should not be drunk by mature adults. The Gatorade people won't tell you that.

Heidi - the tennis club on Jekyll Island where I play occasionally won't let kids drink it. I don't know what they've substituted for it. They used to provide it for our adult tournaments, but no longer....
