BTW, it is not quiet here yet. I have had machines running. One more floor, then I will learn what quiet is, again.

Not yet Debby, but I am working on it. I am ashamed to say it has been a long time since all of it was done on the same day.
But my excuse is, I am loving every moment with my girls, who are growing up in the most supportive, loving environment, I can give them.

Sadly Anne I fear it will always be that way, nothing changes in many respects, the same mistakes are made day in, day out, laws change but without a 'standard' that is workable we will always have these terrible events happen. An 'eye for an eye', revenge, what signal does that send out? Who draws More...

Rayray, I hope you hear from your friends as soon as possible. It is a worrying time for you and so many others, waiting to hear.

How does a 13-year old boy or girl get to the point where they think it is not only acceptable but appropriate to have a child?

After my first husband died, I had a friend tell me to turn on the Stereo, that my house needed some noise. (I had three children then all under the age of 8.) I just don't think they realized that sometimes "Silence is Golden!"

Karen I can only invite you to come and look at my windows, the thought of cleaning any more is driving me to unscrew a cork...I do so love that 'pop' sound as the amber liquid is revealed...

Guiness book of Records - How many corks can André unpop whilst adding shine to windows?

Would love to visit André. Guess I should have mentioned the girl likes to make her footprints too on glass.

Oh, bonus time.
Just waiting for machines to do their job, my tummy has been filled and it is starting to rain.
That is a prefect mixture for a good afternoon snooze. Need I have to mention, that it will be uninterrupted. With you Debby, the TV has been on all day, but muted. I am so happy to just have two quiet machines running and what noise they do make it muted by a shut door.

Anne,
I think it has something to do with social expectations. Don't you think that the production of children brings with it important social recognitions and economic advantages? Such things are quickly percieved by upwardly mobile teenagers - or is that a cynical way of putting it? Maybe but it carries truth.

I wish I had that many windows. I only have four and it is dark in the winter.

In part, yes, rayray. I think that for many kids, having children looks like an easy path to the perceived recognition and maturity that comes with adulthood. But this doesn't account in the increase in such activity among more (and younger) children, even in preteens.

 |  |

I have heard that it is decreasing over the last two decades, and that started when Ronald Reagan started cutting off welfare benefits for unwed teen mothers. Up until then, it was not only a social matter of recognition and maturity but an economic one as well.

04/Oct/09 7:03 AM
 |  |

And does it matter if the unwed mothers are poor teenagers or successful women in their thirties who want a child but not a husband? According to some sources, the former is dropping, but the latter is rising--enough to make it appear that unwed motherhood is, overall, rising. But not the way More...

A Department of Water Resources representative stops at aTexas ranch and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, I need to inspect your ranch for your water allocation.

The Water representative says, Mister, I have More...

Kathy, your cork wreath gave me an idea for something I could do with all the corks I have been saving for many years! Can any of you crafty Sudokuists tell me if the corks would have to be wired together or could they just be glued?

André, leave the windows & sit down & have a glass of wine with me. I am mourning Michigan's loss (in football) to Michigan State 26-20 in overtime. Oh Judy, boo hoo for all us Wolverine fans

You can hot glue corks, Kathy. I've done it. Just Google "wine cork wreaths" and I'm sure you'll find directions.

Morning -said blearily after an almost sleepless night (when I was not at work!!).

Worked an extra night shift on Friday night, slep from lunchtime yesterday to dinner time, and then a bit more, because I couldn't seem to wake up. Well, then when I was supposed to sleep I couldn't, and I was supposed to work this morning - ended up calling in sick at 0430.

Anne how can we help these children who are having children when their parents dress them up provocatively? In elementary school I see girls with blouses where the neckline is falling off their shoulders and in shoes with high heels. These prohibit children games with running and hitting and catching balls so they get fatter and spend more time flirting with the opposite gender.
