I wondered if we had visited the wallace monument when in scotland so i googled it for info and i see that not only is it just outside Stirling so we possibly did go there ... but also the direction of the photo is very interesting. Gives the impression it is really in the wilds, but if you turn More...

The Wallace Monument and the Ochils from Stirling Castle

Completed in 1869 after eight years' construction, the 220 feet high Wallace Monument sits prominently on the Abbey Craig two miles north of the city of Stirling itself. It was from this prominent hilltop in 1297 that William Wallace More...

'half inched' is an interesting expression corky. meaning is clear enough but I've not heard it before.
 |  |
Wow, just discovered the sight and the comments. Can anybody recommend any other similar sights. PS: 11.36am and expected temp is in high 30's, very hot.

Corky/Ireland: Problem with that song is that Neil never bothers to mention the actual town! Guess he didn't want to commit to just one town!

Anyhow, if you google a map of Ontario we are approximately a third of the way up. You can see the Trans Canada highway swing through Kapuskasing More...

TONY from UK - I hope you are enjoying your new 'toy'. If you are going to be dancing to all the songs on there you won't have time to play sudoku and improve your times.

All! Just checking in quickly tonight at 8:57 PM in Cary, NC. Read a few comments & realized that many have been concerned for those in central Florida. Fortunately, the areas hit by the tornadoes were not near where my two daughters in FL live. And I believe Kim's area was More...

after much wondering, wandering and pondering...
Glinda - raisinets are not usually classified as a breakfast food. Have you thought about checking your blood sugar levels? Deeply concerned for your well being.

Mel - I had thought the same as you, under the grill would work, except that I would consider that 'cooking'.

Rhyming slang raises its head once again, as it did on 28 August 06, page 2. ''Half-inched'' is rhyming slang for ''pinched.''

Today we took the two older grandsons to the Morehead Planetarium & Science Center in Chapel Hill to see the LEGO-Palooza, an exhibition of all sorts of things made from Lego blocks, everything from Star Wars & Harry Potter scenes to train stations & medieval villages. After looking at all the More...

We have decided to stay here until Tuesday so that we can give Wendy one more day to rest on Monday. She is working a 12 hour shift at the hospital tonight & tomorrow night. Sometimes she works all night & then stays up all the next day or sleeps only 1-2 hours while the 2 year old takes his nap! I don't know how she does it.

William Wallace,of the monument in picture, AKA Mel Gibson, was known as Braveheart. this was a corruption of his nickname which was in fact bray fart because he farted like a donkey.
 |  |

So that was also rhyming slang, sort of?

Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted, but I do stop by and read them every once in a while. The weather is getting cold here. We got a lot of heavy rain the night of the tornadoes.I think they were 1 1/2 hour away from us. I feel bad for all the people who lost everything and the 20 people who lost thier lives. No on predicted the storms, so no one was ready for them.

I enjoyed the jokes. Keep them coming.

A boy is about to go on his first date, and is nervous about what to talk about. He asks his father for advice. The father replies: 'My son, there are three subjects that always work. These are food, family, and philosophy.'

The boy picks up his date and they go to a soda fountain. Ice More...

In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have 'the rule of thumb'

Ian thanks for the rhyming slang explanation. adds a wonderful richness to our language! i do feel for my migrant students sometimes. If I had to explain 'half inched' I'd have to explain inches first, then that to pinch = to steal, then about why we feel copying can classify as stealing since many of them just don't worry about that in their culture.... lotsa fun!

Has anyone raised their hand to claim this Wallace photo? I like it better than the Wikipedia one for the contrast of the greenery around the monument compared to the countryside in the background.

Kudos to someone for a great shot!

Kathy/FL: glad you and the grandsons had a good time with the Legos.

They were one of my favorite childhood toys, my Etch-a-Sketch being a close second!

...that should have read, 'Wallace monument' (but you knew that!)

the world will come to an end and all will be damned to hell!

To everyone who contributed facts and humor, Thanks for the facts, many of which I didn't already know. And for the humor, it always brings a smile and sometimes even a good laugh.

Thank you to all who were concerned about us after the tornado.

Annie, Syd Barrett was a crazy (is) diamond. His albums are quite good. Billy shines brighter than a diamond.

Kim does not live near Jacksonville. So I don't think it is her.

Good to hear you are ok tho Ed - was Lithia at all close to the tornado? Hope not!

We haven't heard from our Perth friends for some time. Billy, Mel and Rola, are you all OK? I heard about the bushfires in Perth, but haven't heard all the details yet.

Victoria, emails to both your work and home email addresses keeping bouncing back to me. Are you receiving emails from other people?
