G'day mates. Here's today's daffynition:
panache (not pancake!) — cooking pain
And here's today's factoid:
The Arabs invented caramel, which served as a depilatory (hair removal) for women in a harem.

Sorry Northern Hemisphere folks but you will probably think that there is no justice in the world at present. That's because according to the latest news reports, Punxsutawney Phil predicted that you people are getting 6 more weeks of white stuff.

Has anyone kept track of the accuracy of Punxsutawney Phil's past predictions? He may not be right every year. Although, based on the chatter in Sudokuland, I get the funny feeling that he will be right this year.

Mind you, I think that the apparent slowdown of the sun's sunspots (and other activity), and their effect on the Northern Jet Stream contributes.

Last night's fiasco was terrible. I've seen pick-up football games in the park where the teams played better then Denver did. That was embarrassing for the team and their fans.

Doug - Lucky for us, that nasty little rodent, Punsxsutawney Phil, has been correct 39% of the time since 1887...
Hope he's equally correct this year!

It takes a certain talent to get it wrong well over half the time.

(Actually Phil's not so little.)
But, if he saw his shadow where I live, I would have been a bit surprised. It was overcast all day where I live.
Punxsutawney is several hundred miles from us, so the big question is... How far is his jurisdiction?
04/Feb/14 12:43 AM

He's about 330 miles (about 531 kilometers) from us.

Suppose you're in a hallway lined with 100 closed lockers.
You begin by opening every locker. Then you close every second locker. Then you go to every third locker and open it (if it's closed) or close it (if it's open). Let's call this More...

We tried the hot sugar depilatory at our house one summer. Basically, it's not caramel (which contains milk) it's caramelized (slightly browned) sugar heated to a 'candy stage' at which it's hard but still flexible. Hair removal waxes are similar in how they are used.

so, when the More...

One good thing about the cold temps this winter is that it is freezing the great lakes over pretty solid. That means that the thawing ice in spring 'may' modify early warming and protect fruit trees from budding before the frost is past. If this happens and summer isn't too hot and dry, we might More...

I'll take 6 moore weeks of real winter. It has been minus too cold or above to warm.

Kayo if you are correct and about the origins of caramel I wonder how they worked out it tastes good? No, perhaps we shouldn't go there!
