This just goes to remind you that Los Angeles still has oil under it. One of the reason's they had so much trouble in this particular area with building a sub-way was the methane gas that is quite prevalent here.

Did anyone know that tar pits are mentioned in the Bible? In Genesis around the time of Abraham and Lot. There was a battle. I'd look it up, but the Bible's by the recliner, and I'm stuck on the couch sort of like an elephant in a tar pit ...

I went to the La Brea Tar Pits Museum back in 1988, and recognized the scene in today's photo before the caption displayed! I'd seen the movie "Volcano" and thought that the tar pits sounded interesting, so when we visited my girlfriend a couple of years ago, it was on my list of places to see. It was quite amazing how the tar just bubbled up in new outcrops quite regularly. There were also lots of digs More...
