what's it mean when he's got 3 legs off the ground? Is it that the rider died because the horse was hopping around in one spot?
 |  |
I think the theory (which apparently isn't true everywhere) is that if one hoof is raised, the rider was wounded in battle (possibly dying of those wounds later but not necessarily so); two raised hooves, death in battle; all four hooves on the ground, the rider survived all battles unharmed.

13:40 with one interruption. Nice pic Paul.

I've heard this statue story before but I've seen the famous statue of Andrew Jackson on a rearing horse in the city of New Orleans. (Jackson for you non-Americans out there was a US president, who practiced ethnic cleansing on the American Indians and is now commemorated on our $20 bill. His More...

Maybe the General had won his battles and was ambushed and executed afterwards? Kind of like our Aussie bushranger, Ned Kelly.
Interesting pic.
 |  |
... the war was already over but in those days of slow communication the news had not yet reached New Orleans.) Anyway, Jackson, despite tempting death in many duels, died an old man in his bed. Maybe someone needs to investigate this statue myth.

Richmond, Va is home to Monument Avenue which has several statues of Civil War Generals. The story of the hooves comes up every once in a while. It would be nice if true, but unfortunatly it's just a myth.

Four paw and seven years ago..........
 |  |
I'm going to the theatre to see a play. I have booked the top floor booth.........
 |  |
The code about the statues is accurate for Washington DC, USA. Dunno about other locales.
 |  |
Yeah, where is Sherman?

It's not over until The Cat Lady sings.

Hi Dennis, pretty good for medium I'd say!
KRP, you're on form tonight!
Paul, Chicago, must be nice to see one of your pics on here, especially since it's started a debate!
Paul Hobart where are you?
I'm off to bed, catch you all tomorrow

FWIW: I did a little research, found about fifteen different handheld soduko games, ranging from $15 to $35 (don't know the conversion to other currencies, sorry). None said it would allow possibilities and would delete them when a correct number was entered, as we can do on this wonderful website. That is a must for me. So I am still looking. Any advice?
 |  |
You do not want to hear the Cat Lady sing. We yowl.

I thought you might purr. Maybe a book of sudoku would be cheaper and easier. It would also retain some olde worlde charme.

We had the same problem with charities this year. We settled on Life Line. I don't know if they are National - but we are supporting our local branch. The problem they have is that they have to stay anonymous - therefore they are unable to go out and fundraise. This time of year, More...

I did a course with Lifeline to do counselling. It was very uplifting at first and I (think) helped several but ended up so depressed myself I had to give it up. They do a marvellous job which the government(s) do not make allowance for despite their current windfall (which will be guaranteed to be the next eklection warchest).
 |  |
what is an eklection?
 |  |
6:32 a good Medium time for me. Hello everyone.
 |  |
Are you here too ???????? KRP, tell me is Lifeline a State organisation or National ?
 |  |
Luckily, they have been taken under the wing of Centacare as a governing body. Lifeline is still an entity by themselves, but it is a safeguard to halt the very real threat of the organisation folding.

Battle of New Orleans was in Jan 1815, several months after the Treaty of Ghent that ended the War of 1812. The war was about maintaining the position of the Canadian border and its highlight was the British burning down the White House (and large chunks of Washington) Actually the House wasn't white at the time, but became so to cover up the evidence of burning.

I think that if the horse has all four hooves in the air it is either in the Grand National or is dead.

9:55 - just dreadful. Ree P you might come close to that time? Only 5 sleeps to go!

 |  |
4 hooves off the ground - it could be jumping over something. Somehow I just don't think you will ever see a statue of a horse with no feet on the ground!
 |  |
12:55, with one break to let my wife on e-mail. Diane, you must be getting on here in the morning, I'll catch up with you one of these days.
