Hmmmm. We have had a few mushrooms in our backyard this Fall. We must have had a lot of rain before we came home from Virginia.

I believe these are Mycena, some of which are edible, but most species are unknown. Thirty-three species are known for creating a glow known as foxfire, due to them being bioluminescent.

When I was very little, we called them "fairy houses". We were warned never, never to eat them.

My lawn sometimes sprouts mushrooms but I would never consider eating them. Don't know if they are poisonous, but I don't want to find out the hard way.

They look like what we call 'fairy ring' toadstools, but I don't think they're 'magic'!

If you look v e r y carefully you can just see a tiny little bit of a fairy's face. She didn't hide herself in time.

no mention of fairies in any wild mushroom pickers handbook that I know of!
