We used to have a ladybug nursery in our backyard. Then one Celeste got chickens.

We have a variety of Ladybugs here with different spotting patterns, including some that look like this one. And people use the terms Ladybug and Ladybird interchangeably.

Heidi is right that both terms are used for these beetles. Ladybirds used to be more commonly used, and that is how "Ladybird" Johnson got her nickname (which I hear she wasn't too fond of). When she was a baby, she was "as cute as a ladybird."

There are very few nasty ladybird/bugs! Most of them are very beneficial to plants because they eat aphids & other things that damage plants!

As usual Kate everyone beats me with what I want to say,it just proves great minds think alike.
