Lovely! I thought that deer would be kind of timid. How did you make it so close?

These creatures never cease to amaze me. This one looks different from the deer in Michigan. Great photo, Ian. Thanks!

I can't seem to find any information on Castle Deer. A park, yes, an animal, no.
I, too, think it looks more like an elk.

Good afternoon to all! Nice photo Ian. With those antlers, I thought it might be a reaindeer.

Sorry, wrong guesses everybody. That is a Fallow Deer. They are semi domesticated and found on large estates all over. (imported, of course). Magnificent antlers.

Thanks Heidi, I didn't know it's correct name and didn't have time to look it up before I submitted the photo. But it was in the grounds of the Dutch castle, so I called it..........guess what? Actually, he was quite small, as deers go, not at all threatening.
(Oh dear!)

I believe fallow deer are originally from Europe. What part(s) of Europe I don't know. I've seen them in the US on deer farms.

Jeana got it right. Fallow Deer are native to Europe, but have been introduced to estates and deer farms and hunting preserves throughout the world.
