André, Cowra is a country town roughly west of Sydney. It is famous in Australian folklore because it was chosen as the location for a POW camp during WWII. There was a breakout during which many Japanese lost their lives. The gardens are a memorial to those who died during the breakout. See

Sorry André, I referred you to the map which shows where Cowra is in relation to Sydney, but I forgot to give you some idea of distance. According to my calculations (and I have been known to be wrong - occasionally) Sydney to Cowra is about the same distance as London to Liverpool.

Sounds about right Ian - though I've driven one more recently than the other! The gardens in spring - beautiful!

5:08, hi all. It's a long time since I've been there. Maybe it's time for a trip to Dubbo zoo before the boys get too much older, with a slight detour through Cowra.

Chris, show them the Radio Telescope at Parkes on your way through or back.

Chris, I don't know if you have been there before but there's a pretty good restaurant at the radio telescope. Great place for a lunch stop.

Judy, there are lots of carp in the ponds - you are encouraged to feed them, but not feed ON them.
