8:32 I'll have a guess and say it's Ian's photo of Glendalough in Ireland not far outside Dublin.
Am I right, Ian. It looks familiar as I've been there myself.
Now tell me I'm wrong and make a complete idiot of me!!!

It amazes me that there are so many ancient buildings in the world, and people want to see them. Here in the USA we tear down beautiful well built buildings and replace them with more modern buildings that will not last. We are strange.

7:25 Pretty slow for a medium! Virginia, you are so right! What it boils down to is 'us (history buffs) versus the developers!' I'm involved right now in an effort to preserve some of the charming semi-historic beach cottages on our island.

This morning I discovered someone had asked if Wichita Falls, TX is near the Alamo. No. Wichita Falls is near the Oklahoma/Texas boarder. The Alamo is in down town San Antonio. Google says San Antonio is about 381 miles (613km) south of Wichita Falls. A 6 hour drive. San Antonio is a 3 hour More...

Anne, even if you were an idiot, which you aren't, I wouldn't be so discourteous as to tell you.
Actually, you are absolutely correct, the photo was taken at Glendalough in Ireland. The cathedral was ABANDONED in (get this) 1214! I wonder when it was built?
Glendalough is a fascinating More...

Wow! All of that stone work is impressive! It is so sad at how we tear down buildings here just to rebuild. Some of the old art work can never be replaced. People use to take such price in their craftsmanship. Thank you for the picture!

Speaking of old buildings........It was in the paper this morning that 'Fox and Hounds' on Woodward Ave has been sold. It is a restaurant that has been there for over 80 years. The building looks like a castle. It will probably be torn down and the property re-developed.

Christina/Texas: You should have mentioned the River Walk in San Antonio. It's been over 25 years since I was there, but I loved it on spring evenings.
