Hope that was a telephoto lens, Sue!
Very nice bear shot, though!

We've had bears show up within the city limits of both Everett and Seattle in the last two weeks. The Everett bear was captured and release in a safer area. I don't know if the Seattle bear was ever caught.

In a day or two, once we have migrated up into the mountains for the summer, we will be seeing these fellows on a daily basis! They walk right by the cabin, knocking over furniture, devouring birdseed, and leaving HUGE calling cards! They are not aggressive in our area, however, so we all live together in peace!

4:54 I've never seen a bear in the wild, although I've traveled in the UP of Michigan where they are supposed to be and saw a (fresh <2 hrs. old) track in a KY national forest.

5:54 Hi to all. I'm not sure I would like to be close to them. I think I would be scared to death.

maen all! one of my son's neighbors put suet cages out for the birds at his wishing well...a young male black destroyed the well which had a 50# bag of seed under it...ate most of the seed and wandered off with all three suet cages. now he comes back about every other night. the d.n.r. people may trap him if he keeps this up!

As responsible forest denizens, we only put up our bird feeders when we are at home, and we take them in at night. The bears WILL keep returning to a food source, and they WILL destroy anything that stands between them and their "prey." The horrible tragedy is that bears are no longer More...

Habitualizing bears should be a punishable crime.

And Sue, don't become complaicent. There are bears in OK too, you know.

And in my county in Kentucky.

I agree, Jeb. Punish the morons who feed them and treat them like pets. Don't punish the bears. It's not their fault when people teach them how to find abundant food, and to have no fear of people.

We have a similar problem here with dingos on Frazer Island. Campers keep either feeding them because they look skinny (a natural trait) or burying their unused food in the sand, then complaining when the dingos act like the wild animals that they are! Unfortunately it is not always the guilty that pay the price.

I think that habitualizing children is a greater offense.

I watched the documentary about Charlie Russell, the "Bear Man of Kamchatka" at the weekend and was fascinated by the work he has done with bears in Russia. The only bears I have seen have been in zoos - and I'm pretty comfortable with that!

Yes there is a price to pay for treating wild animals like domestic pets...or children Ian.
