G'day mates. I wonder if Peter from 42°South is wanting my job? Anyway, here's today's

Guess the DST helped me out this morning - but I hate changing our clocks - insanity if you ask me!
Oh Shiela - sorry to hear you aren't well - feel better soon.

Shiela, hope that cold goes away soon. Not sure why I want to be awake at this time. I have a very busy week with things on every day.

I repeat emphatically. I DO NOT LIKE DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME, despite the fact that I get an hour's more daylight at night. It always makes me look lazier in the morning.

Heidi, At least you do not have dairy cows. Imagine telling the cows they have to line up an hour earlier to be milked.

And here's the timely answer to yesterday's poozle:
neWSPaper and/or boWSPrit

I'm afraid I'm not too nautically minded. I had to look up 'bowsprit'.

I'm late, I'm late, I'm late! Daylight saving started without me! Got to reset the clocks!
12/Mar/12 3:03 AM

shosho, you were SUPPOSED to do that before going to bed last night.
12/Mar/12 3:09 AM

Just finished Sunday's noon meal. I am now on DST. No real problems. Will welcome sunset coming 'later' today.
12/Mar/12 4:23 AM

All the clocks in my house have been reset. Except the one in the kitchen. It's waaaay up over the window. I need the ladder for that. Hubby is out working in the yard or he'd get the honor. I think he escaped on purpose.

I haven't reset any yet. The computer automatically reset itself.

June from Epping, NSW, mentioned that the cows in Oz can tell time. Very amazing animals that you Aussies have.
12/Mar/12 4:31 AM

I think all dairy cows can tell time. That's one reason I'm not a dairy farmer.
12/Mar/12 4:32 AM
 |  |

A question for all who milk cows or have knowledge of milk cows' habits: Do cows come to be milked because the sun has come up, or do they come in at a specific (human) time?
12/Mar/12 4:51 AM
 |  |

Just had ANOTHER bull calf born!! That makes the count 19 bull calves and 5 heifer calves. We're having a bully year!

They come in at a certain time because they have been taught that then is the time they get milked (relief) and grained (oh joy!). It only takes a few days of following the More...
12/Mar/12 4:56 AM
 |  |

I always thought it was because they were extremely uncomfortable.
12/Mar/12 4:58 AM
 |  |

If I was a dairy farmer, I'd want more heifer calves than bull calves, because good dairy heifers are worth more than their male counterparts. But I raise beef, and the bull calves are worth more because of higher finishing weights.
12/Mar/12 4:59 AM
 |  |

Hey! I was partially right!
12/Mar/12 5:00 AM
 |  |

Kathy... those big bags do get very uncomfortable. But knowing cows the way I do, the bellowing they make if milking is a few minutes late is because they want their feed. The discomfort is only part of it.
12/Mar/12 5:02 AM
 |  |

On the other hand, if a milking is very late, or missed, they really suffer. The huge bags on dairy cows, with their high milk production, aren't natural. Man has selected for more milk for centuries, and, in my opinion, has created freaks who couldn't survive on their own.

I was able to ride my bike for the first time this season - it was rough - I made it to Church and back - maybe this will tire me out to sleep tonight !

We have had an unbelievable start to our year in terms of rain. After over two years of extreme drought, we have 3/4 of the rain we got last year in just over two months. Now the ground is saturated and everything is running off - all this rain, and we are losing much of the benefit of it.

This was a good tax year for me. Finished in mid-Februar. Owed the Feds $11 and got a couple of hundred back from the state.
