Absolutely Shiela - it's hard to see the coastal cities and towns ever recovering, such is the level of devastationn and there's the question of how close anyone will ever be able to live to the exploded nuclear power plant if it does go into meltdown.

Good Maen friends!
It always seems like my sudoku-world is in order when I post below Chris, Shiela, Karen, Debby and Capt!
Karen - I would celebrate Girl Scout Day with some cookies, but they are already devoured!!!

Hello Anne, Vici, Chris Shiela Debby Captain J and Karen. My thoughts and prayers too are with the people of Japan. This year has been full of Natural disasters. Australia's mammoth and devastating floods ... and there are still areas of Queensland and Victoria that are under water ... have been over whelmed firstly by Christchurch and now the horror of Japan.

I read an interesting artical tonight .. the 72 days that broke our hearts. Though I don't entirely agree with james Campbell, it makes a goood read @ http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/special-reports/days-that-broke-hearts/story-fn7zkbgs-1226020466834

We will have a bright sunny day here in Middle Tennessee. Could even get warm! I have been to South AU. three times and have never been to this park. We talked about going but it just didn't happen.

Perhaps it is because it is too close by. Less than a 15 minute drive from my son's house. Next time, for sure and for certain.

I have just read that because old light bulbs are being phased out, Hasbro, which uses a 100-watt incandescent bulb, is having to redesign the Easy-Bake Oven.

I didn't try for that!

I have many light fixtures that won't take one of the new bulbs and use 100 watt bulbs to keep my water supply from freezing.

I use the new light bulbs in my hallway, where I'm more apt to keep the light on for extended periods of time. But they don't provide the same sort of light as the old ones.

Dear Professor Smallmind,
A student of yours has sent me a question from your recent exam paper: ‘The question is, to be or not to be. That is the question.’ Discuss. I have been plagiarized, misquoted and trashed over the centuries, but no one has had the temerity to try to top me. The green More...

I am back over here from the other puzzels also, fii. It is Saturday here in the US and Sunday in Au. That could be the reason for the few posts. I am usually too busy in the mornings to get on line, but for me, Saturday is a slow day here on the ol'plantation.

We bought some of the new bulbs also. It is a different kind of light, isn't it. Our rooms seem brighter. It looks like we will have to buy some new fixtures for our hallway lights. They will be easy enough to replace.

I read a piece in the newspapper about how to dispose of them if they burn out or break. Don't put them in the general trash/rubbish. I will go dig that paper out of the re-cycle box. I was surprised to read that information. It seems the more eco.friendly we try to be the more problems are created.

Found it. The new bulbs are called CFLs.Stands for, compact fluorescent lamps. They contain a small amout of mercury. If the glass breaks this mercury can be released. Broken or burnt-out bulbs need to be handled as household hazardous wast and not put in the trash.

So, where does one take household hazardous waste. You may have a place in your county. I doubt there is one in my county. Once a year there is a collection of other such items for disposal. Other items that should be taken to such a site would be alkalilne batteries, paint, oil and electronics.

You will need just one more rubbish bin in another corner of your garage or shed to store such items. As an aside, I read that they will no longer make mercury thermometers because they contain "mercury". Figure?

What else should they have done, Shiela?

Heidi, I should have stayed around to see them clean it up, I guess. Then I'd know if they have a knowledgeable staff and precautions in place for such situations.

Seriously doubt it, though.
