OUR = OUT! I knowit is past my bedtime when I cannot type anywhere close to the intended word. And, nope, I have not been eating that brandied pear! Although we had gingered pears for desert last night!

IAN, I think you may be right, boxing, cause even the guy who is behind on points can land a knock out punch, and win.

I've worn out my brain - someone else's turn.

Boxing sounds right for #1, Ian! Just spill #2, Tricia, and I think we'll have them all!

See what International cooperation can do? Answers came from an American Southern Belle, a Wise Woman from the American Northwest, a Southern California Beach Babe, and the sweetest Old Fella in Oz!

Thanks to everyone who, either on this page or on my home page, have wished me good luck in the marathon. I had been aiming for around 3hrs 30 mins and did it in 3hrs 35mins, so pretty close to what I hoped for. I was actually under the time I was expecting until around the 35km mark but "hit the wall" and had to slow down - that's the way it goes.

Congrats Chris, you did good

I would still be running this time next week!

Thanks Mary and Gail, its not too bad for an old bloke! The main thing is that I've proved I can do it and the time would even be good enough (just) to qualify me for the 2010 Boston Marathon, which I intend to enter.

I think that Chris is being too modest. I just checked the most recent Marathon in this area, and Chris's time would have placed him 103 out of 927. Not too shabby, Chris!!

Well done Chris.

I think I'd better come over there and run Judy! There were about 1200 runners in this morning's marathon and I think I came in somewhere around 300th. I knew a couple of spectators out on the course who took photos so I'll try to post one of them here or on my page.

I don't know where that adorable little Tasmanian Devil is, but I'm headed off to sleep, so I'll answer #2 for Tricia ... Niagara Falls. How'd we do, Peter??

Chris - sounds like a good time to me. Anyone who even starts in a marathon deserves a pat on the back.

Bit late to come in on the vegemite discussion but I totally agree with Vicki. TimTams - you can have em - but there is nothing like fresh crusty bread - buttered - then spread with vegemite - I like it spread thinly!
I'm hungry - off for a sandwich!

How about 'sabot' as an extra one for #9.
13/Apr/08 4:32 PM
 |  |

Well done Chris
13/Apr/08 4:58 PM

Sabot is French.
13/Apr/08 5:35 PM
 |  |

What is a sabot?
13/Apr/08 5:38 PM
 |  |

Me too on the vegemite - very fresh bread, lots of butter or margarine, and not too thinly spread vegemite (though definitely not like peanut butter - which is what Americans I know have done when trying it!! I'm related to several and every one of them did that).

And if I had to give up either vegemite or TimTams, it would be TimTams.
13/Apr/08 5:39 PM
 |  |

I agree completely, though I prefer a thin smear (personal taste). And for those you haven't tasted vegemite, it tastes nothing like beer - beer is yucky!

who, not you

I was able to buy vegemite in California - at Pavillions. Later though they replaced it with marmite - thought it was the same thing I guess - i'ts definitely not!!!
13/Apr/08 5:54 PM

no - I find marmite rather bitter

Sabot...interesting word..yes it is french no doubt.A shoe or sandal made predominantly out of wood is called a sabot in french, otherwise known as 'clogs'.Wearing clogs was considered healthy once..way back in 18th century.Later it was associated with the lower class, the worker class, and the More...
