Thanks for your most interesting earthquake info, Rayray. Jaime remembers the quake of '60 very well. It totally destroyed the home on his family's ranch in Temuco. Fortunately, they were at their Santiago home at the time so no one was hurt. They had to completely rebuild the house and all the other structures on the ranch. 13/Jun/11 10:08 AM |  |
Peter Q,I've sent you a message to try to answer your question about quakes and Global Warming. Also there is an item in my gallery which mentions it - the 2nd in the 14th row of items there. 13/Jun/11 10:08 AM |  |
shosho - Wow! It does sound like Brandon has changed since I saw him!!! You will have a wonderful time, no matter what! 13/Jun/11 10:10 AM |  |

 Still sniffling and sneezing. 13/Jun/11 11:04 AM |  |
And even though I donned a mask while I weighed and measured one of my little charges yesterday, his parents still looked a little wary. 13/Jun/11 11:05 AM |  |
So, I'll just stay home and drink tea and rest... 13/Jun/11 11:06 AM |  |

And maybe I'll make a batch of scones and head over for a cuppa at my big brother's - it's his birthday today. 13/Jun/11 11:07 AM |  |

Hope you get to feeling better, CP - I am heading toward bed soon. 13/Jun/11 11:36 AM |  |
Another 5.5 earthquake in Christchurch about half an hour ago. Definitely felt it down here in Dunedin, I heard rattles then my big mirror shook. I feel so sorry for Christchurch people, I don't know how they can take it. I suppose lots of them have no choice tied to a house that is cracked but More... 13/Jun/11 11:44 AM |  |
I'm suppose to be writing lesson plans but I just can't get into the mood of serious thoughtful thinking right now. I want summer to be here now!!! Well the vacation part anyways. Although I don't look forward to the 110-115ºF (43-46ºC) weather. Why do they live in parts of the US where ridiculous temps are the norm? 13/Jun/11 12:29 PM |  |
I never minded the heat in Phoenix when I used to visit my mother. Of course, I was a bit younger then! Interestingly, in my running days, I would run 10 miles every morning in Phoenix whereas I only did 3 to 5 back home in Richmond because of the humidity. 13/Jun/11 12:32 PM |  |
 That was a long, long time ago. I haven't done a 10-mile run in 20 years! 13/Jun/11 12:34 PM |  |
 Oh, I got 100. That's a first for me. 13/Jun/11 12:34 PM |  |
Just felt another even bigger earthquake, my house rattled for about half a minute, doesn't sound like a long time but it sure felt like it especially when you are on your own. Really scary! 13/Jun/11 12:36 PM |  |
Stay safe, Mads. Hope things calm down soon. 13/Jun/11 12:44 PM |  |
Mads,You have beaten me to it.I just came on-site to report what you have already done. One of the quakes was m6.0 - quite big - and the epicentre was only 13 km from Christchurch.I hope there has not been any damage or injuries. 13/Jun/11 12:50 PM |  |
Christchurch has had five shakes in two hours 13/Jun/11 12:50 PM |  |
There has been more damage and 6 people taken to hospital with moderate injuries. I only beat you to it Rayray because I was already logged onto the site while the quakes were happening. I don't cope with them well as I grew up in the UK and had never felt an earthquake before coming to live in New Zealand with my kiwi husband. 13/Jun/11 12:54 PM |  |
Hi Mads,Perhaps you know it already, but this link/site provides information about all the recent quakes near Christchurch:http://www.kerikeriweather.co.nz/wxquake.php 13/Jun/11 12:57 PM |  |
One thing that was interesting was that a tv reporter was talking live to a Christchurch Member of Parliament who was at home when the 6.0 quake occurred then about 2 minutes later I felt it down here around 400 km away. 13/Jun/11 12:58 PM |  |
Rayray, I log on to www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/recent_quakes.html as you can report that you have felt a quake where you live. 13/Jun/11 1:01 PM |  |
I know what you mean about being a little shaken up. Supposedly I live in earthquake county. My students have felt enough of them in their short lives that they're rather calm about it. 13/Jun/11 1:01 PM |  |
I know it sounds ridiculous but I woke up at the time of the quake (it is now 4am here). That has happened before in cases of quakes in other places.I begin to think I may be hypersensitive to seism. 13/Jun/11 1:02 PM |  |
I am in the UK !!!I don't think I shall report my experience. They would think I am crazy ! 13/Jun/11 1:03 PM |  |
We live very close to one fault (they say a good 6-7 will make us an island) and ten miles away from another (Inglewood-Santa Monica) And we're criss crossed with a lot of minor faults. 13/Jun/11 1:03 PM |  |
Rayray, I watch the IRIS earthquake map, is there a similar site for volcanoes? I find the map of far more use than lists of numbers. 13/Jun/11 2:38 PM |  |
Very busy weekend, with very little computer time. Wonderful time at the River Festival and spending time with my sister. 13/Jun/11 2:57 PM |  |
A sad end to the weekend. My sister's 11 year old Golden Retriever, mother to all our Goldens (in my family), went to the Rainbow Bridge. She had begun limping last week and my sis had her xrayed. They thought they saw bone tumors, but weren't sure. Shanny wasn't doing well this morning, and More... 13/Jun/11 3:01 PM |  |
I hope to get more time to catch up tomorrow. Until then, goodnight! 13/Jun/11 3:02 PM |  |
Did a lot of birthday preparation today. Made a huge dent, so don't so pressured. Man went to the store and picked up invitation, so I could get them ready. I really miss my printer at this time. I liked printing out one invitation, then taking it the print shop, (cheaper than using my ink), then mailing them off. But all of the invitations are ready to send off, except for 18 of them. 13/Jun/11 3:11 PM |  |
This afternoon, it felt like I split my head open again. Man said, I am still together, but it does not feel like it. So my doctor gets a call in the morning. 13/Jun/11 3:12 PM |  |
 One more. 13/Jun/11 3:12 PM |  |
