Good Maen, good people. Opening Day of Deer Season (firearms). Ever since Burl got too busy to hunt we haven't been enjoying my corned venison (a/k/a nearly-free meat). Deer really do thrive here in Michigan, and it's necessary to control the population. It keeps the deer herds from disease and starvation. And it cuts down on autos hitting deer, though that is still common.

Burl really enjoyed his work travel to Bali. He brought me back lots of photos and some pretty batik. I've always loved fabric art.

I was once given a batik square of fabric. It was about 12x12''. Beautiful teal colored print. It was too small to make anything, so, I had it framed.

I have just been asked if two more people for Thanksgiving would be a problem. Since I have given absolutely no thought to planning the meal yet....why not? Another leaf in the table and a bigger turkey. Easy peasy.

Plum, When I lived in central Pennsylvania, the first day of hunting (deer) season was a day you kept your kids home inside all day. I once went down to a local store with a tin roof and you could hear the buckshot raining down - I went home quickly. Cows weren't safe!

Kathy, We go down to Austin for a large group Thanksgiving dinner where the rule is: 'More Pies Than People'! With 25 or 30 people, you should see the dessert table!

Good morning all. A wild deer was seen up our road this week. We're hoping it hasn't brought any friends. They are wild in Tasmania and although incredibly destructive, for some reason I can't fathom - they are protected and have bag limits in hunting season.

I like the shed work - sorting, sizing and bunching. If I go back next year I've asked for a shed job.

Kanata, a suburb of Ottawa, lit up two massive twenty-foot Christmas trees last night. One of our local TV stations sent a crew out to get some film coverage. When they took the film of the two beautiful trees, situated perfectly between them was the gorgeous super moon. A beautiful picture!

Would any of you jump out of an airplane 2,000 feet high in the sky without a parachute? Check out this video:

I was so hoping your 2nd post above, Greg, was going to be a link to a photo of the 2 trees standing sentinel to the SUPERmoon. When it wasn't I tried finding Kanata's news feed hoping they may have published a still shot from their film - no such luck! I will just have to imagine the spectacular sight!

Wolf, I didn't realize that might be a Thanksgiving rule re. pies vs. people ...it might explain how such a phenomenon can frequently occur around here!

CG that was insane, but he jumped from 25,000 feet not 2000. Wouldn't want to miss the target would you?

I found three batiks 30-some years ago in Brazil. Two of them are matted and framed over our headboard. I gave the third to my mom but I've gotten it back as she's downsized. I'm thinking of mounting it a2nd hanging it across the bedroom from the others.

Where did that 2 in the word and come from?

The batiks from Brazil appear to have been outline stamped with a permanent black ink or dye then filled with color that blended when wet. Finally they were waxed, wrinkled and dyed in brown-black. They look like stained glass.

One depicts a man panning for gold. Next to it I have women washing down the walkway leading up to a church with towers. Both have lots of white streaks indicating splashing water. The spraying water makes the scenes look fresh and immediate.

And that's a BOPP
