I took two guesses (incorrect) at Captain J's puzzle. Maybe I'll give it another looksee after dinner - which Jaime is cooking on the grill. We've been without AC since yesterday, so there is no way I am going to cook anything in the kitchen and heat the house up!

Hi, g'bye, Cp!

Jamie that was a long trip - 4000miles (6400km)- covering a lot of states!! If you drove right around Australia you could do 15,062kms - 9413.75 miles (if I've converted the Ks correctly!!) and only go through 5 States & 1 Territory!!! You could add the other Territory, the ACT, by deviating away from the coast! To include Tasmania you'd have to hop on the ferry!

Kathy, my brain hurts! I have looked at your puzzle for (off and on) the last two hours. I believe your 'Bye! I must leaf you now!' inbox reference is a clue. But if it is, it hasn't helped.

Hi HalT - thanks for the info about up the river!!!
Think I'll still use it though - Hawkesbury River is too long!! The house is not only on the river but we have to get there by boat, hence my term - Up-the-River!!!
I guess there's an Aussie term for gaol, too!!!

I gave up on Kathy's poozle. It made my brain hurt, too. What I need is a sudden burst of inspiration, but I don't think it's gonna happen.

Kate - I believe you converted the kilometers correctly! Yes, it is a long way around Australia. We actually hit six of the states in one day when we drove about 950 miles - South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas - it was a long day.
I also gave up on Kathy's puzzle before I left Dallas this afternoon.

Geez,Jamie!!! You drove 950 miles in one day?
I feel good about getting 600 miles.

Yep, Hal - we left your state about 5:00 ET and got to Dallas about 7:00 that evening. And we went through a LOT of rain that day.
Earlier in the trip we had done about 750 miles from Taos, NM to Fayetteville, AR.

Good maeN, good people. I got up to check the aurora borealis reports. Active possibilities IF it spikes higher, though that's very unlikely. Still, worth a look see then back to bed.

So does a big surge of solar activity cause/lead to more aurora?
