Another busy day here in Richfield. Kids are off school. I need to fly around the house and pack up for a quick weekend trip. We are going to Cincinnati to see my 14 year old niece sing the part of Maria from Sound of Music in her school play.

Baby & Mom/Mum left the hospital the day after he was born. First time mothers must feel abandoned! Luckily, this is her second child.

Another dangerously cold day today. Awoke to weather man saying it was -24F with a 'feels like' temp of -46F. School is closed again today. I have one crying (my oldest who is sad about missing the quarterly incentive), one pouting (my youngest who thinks he now does not get lunch), and my middle who is dancing around thrilled. Go figure.

Pretty chilly here, but I don't think it got much below 35. The impatiens are still holding up. Tonight is supposed to be colder.

Calling botanical savants: What is this flower? Some sort of clematis? Stunning contrast with dark blossoms and bright foliage.

Hope all you Northerners are holding up. I can only imagine what it must be like to wake up to sub-zero temperatures. It's been years since I lived where it gets that cold. I don't ever remember schools being closed because of the cold, however.

I remember in my far-away youth that schools in my northern Illinois district never closed for snow. Teachers were all required to live within walking distance of the school, and so even if the school buses weren't running, classes were held for those students who were also within walking distance. Our family lived three blocks from school so I never missed a day due to snow.

Plum, it is not a dandelion. My work here is done.

Jane, it is rarely done. That it has been done 2 days in a row will probably go down in the history books.

Brrrrrrrrrr. I'm cold just thinking about walking in the snow. I'm going to have to go make some more coffee.

That's a clematis, all right.
Sunny and cold here--debating whether to venture out for a walk. Think I'd better dig the thermals out of our ski bin. (It's even too cold to ski. Not a fan of those frigid rides on the chair lift.)

I attended school in Michigan for 17 years ... and we NEVER had a snow day! In fact, we walked miles to school through snow up to our waists ... oh, no ... I've become my grandmother!

Kudos to Aussie soldier Mark Donaldson who was just awarded the Victoria Cross for heroism in a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan last year!

Now, now, Judy! In Texas schools get closed more often because it gets too cold and there isn't enough fuel to go around to heat the schools! More often that than snow in my part of the state.
