Happy Wednesday!
Shosho: This will be the Year of the Snake (Chinese New Year being Feb 10 2013), which is my son's animal (that means he will be 24 in December; egads!)

Yikees! My new grandie will be born this June in the year of the snake! Cunning, sneaky little devil! Am I going to have my arms full!!! Heart's already filling with love but brain is boggled!

everybody. I am glad to have my new Kindle Fire so I can sit outside on the lanai & be the lifeguard for grandson Jaxon who is enjoying some play time in the pool & hot tub.

Good afternoon to all!

Knock! Knock!
Who's there?
Ice cream!
Ice cream who?
Ice cream if you throw me in the cold, cold water!

shosho - you & I will both have new grandies born in the Year of the Snake! Sorry your grandson is sick. I've forgotten - how old he is now? Jaxon is 8. He's really a good boy, but it's a challenge finding things to keep him busy all day long with no brothers or friends to play with.

I take your point about guarding against exploitation, but the thing tends to become something of a vicious circle - unless it can be broken. So: it shouldn't be a crime to be naive.
I am sensitive about this right now because I was recently 'taken for a ride' by a telephone scam-merchant - More...

Funny you should mention cold water,Greg. Our pool temp. was only 68F. on Mon., but Jaxon was so anxious to swim, he plunged in anyway! Rob turned on the hot tub so he can go back & forth between that & the pool. Today he's been out here for almost 2 hours!!

Shiela - sorry about your lingering cold & your friend's premature grandie. That must have been scary for the mom & dad. Is the baby doing okay?

Later this afternoon we are taking Jaxon to see the movie Life of Pi in 3-D. Hopefully, he'll be tired enough from pool time that he'll be ready for a long sit. The movie is over 2 hours long.

Ray, no criticism of being naive. It is a charming attribute, and nothing to be ashamed of. The criticism is for those that force us all to remain on guard.

But well worth those two hours, IMHO, Kathy.

Hi, Kathy! My grandie is 5 yo. I'm trying to make sure he doesn't miss too much in school work. While he was feeling okay, I had him going over his addition, reading lists, and spelling. We're up to spelling w words and x ending words.

After lunch we'll get back to reading. Golly, kindergarten is challenging. The course work vs attention span.

I just saw Life of Pi and I really think most of it will go right over the head of an 8 yo.

try again. I have posted pictures from the Tea Party. We are going to a movie today, as well. Choice: Wreck-it Ralph or The Hobbit. The Hobbit wins! Matt has seen it once but thinks it is worth a repeat. Computer still giving me problems.

Daplap, there's plenty of subtlety and symbolism an 8 year old wouldn't appreciate, but there's plenty an 8 year old could really get into, like the conflict/relationship between Pi and the tiger, and the struggle of both to survive at sea.

Rayray, There is one sure way of overcoming the problem of those phone merchants. Set your phone on permanent answering machine after a set number of rings; leave a message, and never answer the phone until the person identifies themselves. If you want to talk to the caller, you can still do so.You More...

One more comment on the Lincoln/Kennedy coincidences: While I agree that it's odd that many of the things mentioned are true, I don't think that is significant, other than it's odd.
For example, gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill, California, exactly 110 years before I was born. And the name Sutter and my last name have the same number of letters.
Odd? Maybe.
Significant? Not really!

Well, yeah Jim. That part was significant but I've learned to live with it.

Daplap - As I was watching Life of Pi I was not sure how much of it Jaxon would understand since there were many aspects which even adults might have to think deeply about. But on the way home we were talking about the 2nd version of Pi's story & Jaxon told us exactly which person each animal More...
